Classics Challenge Wrap-Up

The Classics Challenge 2009 is complete! I participated at the 'snack' level (as opposed to entree or feast) which required four books to be read over the six month period. My classic snack included:

The Home-Maker by Dorothy Canfield (reviewed 5/20/09)

In these, I found a stunning psychological portrayal, a story of oppression from societal roles, an Austen-like domestic drama teeming with raw emotion, and the quintessential sensation novel. It's impossible to choose the one I liked best, but look for at least a couple to appear on my year-end list of favorites.

Thank you so much, Trish, for hosting this challenge!

  1. Congratulations on finishing! Three of these are on my tbr because of you:) Off to read about the Zola...

  2. Congrats on finishing. I still have to write up my last review and wrap-up . . . and I only have one day left!! I've only read (or listened to the audiobook) Woman in White on your list. I'll have to check out the other books!

  3. Congratulations on completing your challenge! I've only read Zola, but the others are somewhere among my endlessly growing tbr-books!

  4. I've been absent from the book blogging world for so long that I wouldn't be surprised if you'd forgotten me! Hi, JoAnn, I'm Madeleine!

Congrats on finishing this challenge! I'm going to fall a bit behind in my RIP challenge, but I've realized that these challenges are quite the adventure! If this one is annual, I'm certain I'll participate next year!

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. I need to go back and read your "Woman in White" review after I complete my own review for said book soon!

  5. Ditto on the Congrats! Hmmm ... I must really be lost because I don't recognize any of these titles. Another great reason to blog :)

  6. I am listening to the audio cd of 'Woman in White' , very good. Thankyou for your kind wishes on our Anniversary.

  7. Way to go! I'm so impressed when anyone finishes a challenge because I haven't managed to do it yet.

  8. Quite the accomplishment along with your other reading challenges! I'm so looking forward to reading about the books that were everyone's favourite this past year.

  9. Book Psmith - Zola was one of my favorite 'discoveries' this year. I'll definitely be reading another of his books next year.

Laura's Reviews - I'm sure you'll get that last review written! I'll be over the check on it.

Ivana - What did you read by Zola? I've been looking for recommendations. Germinal seems to be his 'masterpiece'.

Madeleine - It's good to hear from you! You must be pretty busy with school right now. I'll stop by and visit later today...

Kim - The Woman in White is the only book I was familiar with last year at this time. I've learned about all the others from fellow tbr pile is out of control!!

Zetor - The Woman in White must be very good on audio.

Bermudaonion - Thanks! I love classics, so this was an easy one to finish.

Darlene - Those end of the year lists are great...I can't wait to see them all!

  10. Wonderful job, JoAnn!! Although I read The Woman in White earlier this year before the challenge started I'll definitely be counting it towards my favorites of the year. Hope you'll join us again next year!!

  11. Trish - I'll definitely be back for more next year. Thanks again!
