I loved this book so much, JoAnn! Richard Yates had such a unique voice. I will get around to the final two books of his I haven't read this year. This has reminded me how much I love his writing!
I must read this! I love the cover!
Oh, my, I love that quote! I haven't heard of him, so thanks!(Kim Bee here -- I'm following under my only blog now. Needed to consolidate and trim down. With 6 other writers joining me, there should be more books, too. Hope you will keep in touch.)
Richard Yates keeps cropping up in my reading so much so that I have got as far as writing Easter Parade by Richard Yates in my 'would like to read book' list. Hoping to find it soon - maybe intime for Easter?
Ack! I've never heard of him. I guess I must be missing out!?
I've never read anything by Yates. I should see what I've been missing.
yes, it is and I'm a bit intrigued by that statement!!
Rachel - I know I will be reading more of his work! The collected stories are on the shelf, but I'm not sure which novel to choose next.Viv - This is a VERY real novel... no sugar coating.Kim - I saw that you were changing blogs. Will look for you at Georgia Girls.Joan Hunter Dunn - Hope you can find it. I love Yates writing.Sandy - He's the guy that wrote Revolutionary Road, but the name may not be familiar.Carolsnotebook - You should. He has a keen perspective on 'real life'.Staci - His writing is very real, and not exactly uplifting, but I really like it.
This one sits on my shelf (unread) and I just know I will love it. Great quote.
Super quote, JoAnn! I've never read any of Yates's work. Will have to fix that. Someday. Thanks!
Diane - That's why I'm loving the tbr dare! This has been on my shelf for some time, and I just knew I was going to like it.DS - Hope you get to Yates eventually. I know it's frustrating... there are so many authors I want to try, and the list just keeps getting longer.
So far, I've only read Revolutionary Road, which had such an impact on me, that when I heard about The Easter Parade (from your blog!), I had to order it right away. It just came in the mail yesterday. I'm drooling here, eager to read it, but there are others I must read first! Sigh....
Laurel-Rain Snow - I hope you enjoy The Easter Parade as much as I did.... it's my favorite book so far this year! Will definitely be reading more by Yates.
I love this quote! As someone who's never read anything by Yates before, is there one book in particularly I should start with first?
Vasilly - Isn't that a great quote? I love it, too. I listened to Revolutionary Road a couple of years ago and loved it. That seems to be his most well-known novel, but The Easter Parade was great, too. I'll definitely be reading more.
I read one of his short stories and you commented on it!http://lettersfromahillfarm.blogspot.com/2010/01/short-story-mondaya-really-good-jazz.html
Nan - I remember your post! I have since picked up a copy of Yates collected stories and enjoyed the few I've read. Need to decide which of his novels to read next.
Wow, what a statement. It's really very sad.I have only read Revolutionary Road by Yates but defintely want to read more!
Amy - Isn't that quote something? I loved The Easter Parade and will definitely be reading more of his novels.
