Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. It's been months since my last TTT post, but this week's topic, New-to-Me Authors I Read In 2018, caught my eye. Since half the books I read last year were by "new" authors, I though it would be fun to take a look at my favorites. Interestingly, they were all women.
2018 Author Discoveries: Fiction
Min Jin Lee - Pachinko and Free Food for Millionaires
Joan Silber - Improvement
Sarah Winman - Tin Man
Claire Fuller - Swimming Lessons
Rebecca Kauffman - The Gunners
2018 Author Discoveries: Nonfiction
Nina Willner
Debby Irving - Waking Up White: And Finding Myself in the Story of Race
Kory Stamper - Word by Word: The Secret Life of Dictionaries

We have a couple in common on our lists for this year, Kelly Corrigan and Rebecca Kauffman. Two others I read for the first time last year, Claire Fuller and Nina Willner. It's always a plus adding new favorite authors to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteSusie - Finding new authors to follow and read is the best!
DeleteYes, The Radium Girls was an excellent read.
ReplyDeleteThis is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
Lydia - I hope she's working on another book!
DeleteYay for female authors! I discovered Min Jin Lee in 2018, too, and need to go back and read her first book.
ReplyDeleteKathy - Hope you can work Free Food for Millionaires in this year. The audio was really good, too. It was a read/listen combo for me.
DeleteAll mine were women too! You've got some great selections on here and I'd say most of these are already on my wishlist. Now to make it happen!
ReplyDeleteIliana - It was a good year for female authors!
DeleteI really neglected nonfiction in 2018 and really find myself missing it. It's one of my favorite genres and I'm going to check out the authors you mention.
ReplyDeleteKatherine - Hope you can work more nonfiction in this year. I'm enjoying it more and more every year!
DeleteYes to Kate Moore! I hope she writes another book!
ReplyDeleteAngela - Me, too! Wonder if she's working on something now...
DeleteKelly Corrigan is an all-time favorite of mine. The rest on your list are on my recommendation list for my book club. If we don't choose all my recs, I still plan on reading them!
ReplyDeleteLes - After reading the above book and Lift, I need to catch up with her older books.
DeleteI'm glad you read Claire Fuller! Our Endless Numbered Days is so, so good, too. :) I haven't read Bitter Orange (yet).
ReplyDeleteMonika - I have Our Endless Numbered Days ready to go on my kindle... looking forward to it. It seems like Bitter Orange is getting mixed reviews, but I plan to read that one, too.
DeleteI bought Panchinko for a bookish friend. I couldn't even come up with 10 I wanted to read again, so sad!
ReplyDeleteStacy - Oh, no! Hope 2019's selections are better.
DeleteI love finding really good new authors.
ReplyDeletePatty - Me, too! The only problem is that there's never enough time to read all of their previous books and keep up with their new one, too...
DeleteWow love your list. All women too! I've only listened to Tin Man of these, but I hope to get to many more of them. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSusan - The audio version added to my enjoyment of Tin Man... the author's narration was absolutely perfect! It was a read/listen combo for me, but I almost hated to just read!
DeleteThanks for the heads up about these books by female authors. I have some of them on my tbr list but not all. Will look them all up.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Paula. I can't believe I read nearly 80% female authors last year... many new to me and, I have a feeling, will become favorites.
DeleteGreat list -- I have some of them on that ever-growing "I really want to read it" list.
ReplyDeleteBeth F - Ever-growing is right. My list is out of control!
DeleteI read Free Food for Millionaires and loved it. Pachinko is on my tbr list. I'm going to check out the rest of these writers. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteVasilly - Pachinko is very different from Free Food for Millionaires and, in many ways, even better!
DeleteI liked Tin Man, too! The author should have made my TTT list, but I had to limit myself to 10.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
AJ - I know! So many to choose from...
DeleteGreat to see you enjoyed Claire Fuller's writing last year - I too enjoy her books... I have yet to read her newest release though, despite having it on my Kindle!
ReplyDeleteJade - I plan to read Fuller's new novel, too, and also have Our Endless Numbered Days ready to go on my kindle.
