(Almost) Wordless Wednesday

Judging from the response on Instagram yesterday, I had to share this photo here:

My caption:
Look what I saw at B&N today! This could be the only way I'll ever read Proust. #instabooks #bookstagram

  1. Looks like it should be a poster. Great image.

  2. LOL! I think that it would be cheating to read him like that!

I wonder who the market for something like this is. Perhaps it is students who are assigned the work but do not want to read it?

    1. Brian Joseph - Perhaps it's a way to ease into Proust?

  5. I was in B&N yesterday as well, but didn't see that. I would have been tempted :)

  6. What a great cover! Sadly, I haven't read any Proust since college.

  10. Oh oh oh. I must have this! I've long been fascinated with Proust (although I'm not quite sure why). I tried to read it once and I think abandoned after 5 pages or so. This would be perfect. Thanks so much for posting and sharing. Now to track it down in Australia.

  11. I need to get to the bookstore. Probably the only way I'll ever read him, too.

  12. Fun!! I hated the graphic version of P&P I read. If the artwork inside is like the cover, I'd love to read this Proust.

    1. Beth F - P&P is the only graphic classic I've read... and I hated the artwork :(

  13. There's a story about two of the Mitford sisters very late in life.

One complains that she has never taken literature seriously enough and asks if it's too late to start reading Proust.

The other says, "God, I hope so."

    ;=)

  15. Oh the artwork looks wonderful if the cover is any indication. Have you ever watched Black Books, there was a great moment when Dylan Moran described Proust it went something like: "he is a French bloke, wakes up, has a biscuit, thinks what did I do yesterday? for 3000 pages. Brilliant very French". and that about sums it up. The graphic novel looks like a good idea.

    1. Arabella - Ha! Perfect. I have no real desire to read Proust, but may take a closer look at this next time I'm in B&N.

  16. This sounds wonderful! However appealing visually though, JoAnn, I'm sure you'll enjoy reading Swann's Way. It's surprisingly accessible. You'll enjoy the pleasant scenes and emotions Proust describes. That's right, the emotive effects just may not be so readily conveyed in a graphic novel.

    1. Arti - Swann's Way does not strike me as a novel which would be easily adaptable to this format. Makes me want to read it and see!

    2. You're right of course. I'd like to get hold of this too. Just the cover is enough to entice. And I'm sure the visual is a perfect complement to the literary. Thanks for sharing this! :)
