Top Ten Books I've Read (so far) This Year

It's hard to believe, but we're almost at the midpoint of 2014. Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, wants to know about our favorite books so far this year. I've read some great books over the past six months, so this was not a particularly easy task. In fact, if you look closely, there are actually eleven books listed. I foresee trouble when it's time to make those year-end lists in December...

Fiction:
by Meg Wolitzer

by Jojo Moyes

by Tracy Guzeman

by M.L. Stedman

by E. Lockhart

by Ariel Lawhon

by Elizabeth Gilbert
Narrated by Juliet Stevenson

Nonfiction:
by Piper Kerman
Narrated by Cassandra Campbell

by Ann Patchett
Narrated by Ann Patchett

by Daniel James Brown
Narrated by Edward Hermann

by Bill Dedman and Paul Clark Newell, Jr.
Narrated by Kimberly Farr

  5. We have several books in common--Boys in the Boat and Empty Mansions are both on my list--and I would have included Happy Marriage but I actually read it last year! I'm listening to We Were Liars on audiobook right now--I'm not too far in yet but so far I'm enjoying it.

  7. While I've only read Orange is the New Black, it's amazing how many of your top 10 list are on my to-read list. Shows I'm a faithful reader of your blog and our tastes align :)

I'm next on the list for The Signature of All Things at the library--can't wait!

    1. JaneGS - We definitely have similar tastes! I never expected to like The Signature of All Things as much as I did... the summary really doesn't do justice to the story.

  13. I'm still waiting for We Were Liars (I think I'm next on the list) and have most of your others on my TBR. I especially look forward to reading The Interestings sometime this year. I love seeing everyone's favorites!

  14. Ah, good list... I have read a few of these. I really enjoyed Orange is the New Black, even though I don't usually read nonfiction. I would like to try Empty Mansions!

  15. I didn't get very far with The Light Between Oceans, but maybe I didn't stick with it long enough. I have Ann Patchett's most recent novel on the TBR stacks - which will be my introduction to her. But I've heard very good things about the Happy Marriage book. I hope the rest of the year brings you just as many great reads.

    1. Lisa - The Light Between Oceans gets off to a *very* slow start - which is why it got 4.5 instead of 5 stars from me. If I hadn't been reading for book club, I might have put it aside, but I'm so glad I didn't. The writing is gorgeous and it's a very thought-provoking story.

    1. Midlife Roadtripper - Sorry about that! ;-)

You mean Kate Atkinson's Life After Life, right? Jill McCorkle released a book with the same title last spring, too. That one is also on my wish list.

  18. I loved The Light Between The Oceans and The Boys in The Boat. I checked out The Interestings from the library, but gave it to my mother as I was too busy closing up the school year. She liked it very much, as you did. Maybe I'll get to it this summer?

  20. I keep forgetting how much I loved The Signature of All Things - I think I appreciate it more looking back on it than I even did just after reading it. I'm really looking forward to getting to The Wife The Maid and The Mistress to get ready for Booktopia Asheville soon.
