Oh yes, Cutting for Stone and Pachinko were both fabulous!
Kathy - I can't wait for Min Jin Lee's next book!
Its great that you can get the details for the decade. Some really great books here.
Mystica - Guess my obsessive record-keeping is good for something, lol!
I’m not sure I could name my favorites from the decade but I’m impressed, I’ll try a few of your favorites. You have given me great suggestions over the past year and I’ve enjoyed each one. Inheritance comes to mind. I wasn’t aware of Dani Shapiro prior to this book Soave new ones to read now.Wishing you and your family a wonderful New Years celebration and glad you are in your happy place on the island !
Tina - I mostly looked through my list of favorites for each year and chose the book that stuck with me the most. So glad you're enjoying some of the books I'm reading, too. Dani Shapiro was such a pleasant surprise! I read a novel she wrote (well over a decade ago) but never any of her memoirs. This year I read three and absolutely loved two of them! Happy New Year!
I haven't read any of these, but since you loved them, I will have to check them out!
Angela - I hope you find a new favorite or two here :)
I've only read one of these, Cutting For Stone, but it was a great book! Always love hearing about what you're reading.
Kay - Funny how some books just stick with you... even though it's been nearly a decade, I remember some scenes of that book so vividly! It's always a pleasure for me to see what going on in your corner of the world, too. Happy New Year!
Thanks for sharing your favorites from this decade! I haven't read any of these even though Cutting for Stone, Mudbound, and Emperor's Children are some of the books that I always carry year-to-year in my TBR. One of the good things I'm facing right now, while getting back to reading and blogging is that I could technically start anywhere, so maybe I'll start with the books on this post. :-)
Athira - I'm so glad you're getting back to reading and blogging. I'm sure the past few years have been busy ones for you and your family. Look forward to hearing about your 2020 reading!
Oh what a great list! I haven't read any of these - yet. Here's to a new decade with lots of great reads ahead.
Iliana - Yes, here's to another book-filled decade!!
I loved the audio version of Cutting for Stone. I can still picture some of the scenes even though it's been years since I listened to it. And, oh. The Homecoming of Samuel Lake is another FANTASTIC audiobook. Loved it! Mudbound was also good. I keep meaning to watch the movie... I tried The Interestings, but couldn't get interested. ;) I didn't love Pachinko nearly as much as other readers, but I enjoyed the first half of the book. Thank you! You've inspired me to update my sidebar list of Annual Top Tens and put together a Favorite Books of the Decade list.
Les - I read Cutting for Stone a decade ago, so an audio reread would be perfect! The audio of Samuel Lake was one of the best ever... sure wish Jenny Wingfield would write another book. I'm terrible about following-up favorite books with film adaptations (maybe because so many are disappointing) but I do want to see Mudbound. I remember quite a few readers had trouble getting into The Interestings, but the most controversial pick here is The Emperor's Children. Plenty of bloggers really disliked that one, but I absolutely loved it! Can't wait to see your list :)
I loved Behold the Dreamers ... and still need to read Cutting for Stone which I've always wanted to get to.
Susan - I passed my copy of Behold the Dreamers on to my daughter, mother, and sisters. They all loved it, too! I'd like to reread Cutting for Stone... Les said above that the audio is excellent, so I'll give it a try one of these days.
I am the only person on earth who still hasn't read Cutting for Stone. (or Pachinko). I'll catch up one of these days.
Beth F - Think you'll love them both if you decide to try them.
How is it possible that I haven't even read so many of your favorites?!
Lisa - Really? That's strange because I feel like we agree on books so frequently!
