  1. I am pleased that you finally finished it.

The lake is looking lovely at the moment. I love the autumn tree.

  2. Woo hoo congratulations. I bought it for Warmth last Christmas as he;s a lawyer and he read it and enjoyed it. I love Dickens but BH does just seem a little too long.

  3. Congrats! That's one of the books I'm contemplating for my year of "stop avoiding doorstops" reading next year.

  4. Good for you, JoAnn! I completely agree with your assessment...Dickens is a master storyteller. I began David Copperfield this morning and, as usual, within the first pages, he had me hooked. Look forward to reading your final thoughts.

  5. Vivienne - Me, too! There were times when I thought it was going to go on forever.

Joan Hunter Dunn - I have to agree. Although I enjoyed it, Bleak House was just too long!

Amy - Thank you. It's a great story, but I got to page 750 before I had that 'can't put it down' feeling.

Stacy - I think David Copperfield will be my next Dickens. So glad to hear it's drawn you in right away. I'm going to need a little break from Dickens though...

  7. Well done!! Congratulations, it is quite an achievement. I look forward to reading your comments. And I love your lake photo -- nice colors! We're having a little color change in Texas but not nearly as dramatic.

  8. Woo hoooooooo! Congratulations! How exciting. I love the combo of audio and print--that's what I'm doing with The Odyssey, and I'm finding it's a great way to get through a long, dense book.

  10. Les - Thanks... liked it, but didn't love it. Trying to collect my thoughts.

Karenlibrarian - There's definitely a feeling of accomplishment that goes with finishing Bleak House. Not my favorite Dickens, but still enjoyable. The leaves are almost all gone now... time for a new header photo :-)

Erin - The combination print/audio worked very well with Bleak House. Think I'm going to try it with To The Lighthouse... thanks for giving me the idea!

    Staci - I sure am ;-)

  12. Phew! Other than A Christmas Carol, my only Dickens ventures have been on television. Looking forward to your thoughts on this one!

  13. Iris - Thanks. I really did enjoy BH, but it's not my favorite Dickens.

Darlene - I'll definitely watch Bleak House on DVD... curious to see how they are all portrayed. I may reread A Christmas Carol next month.

  17. Ouch! 26 CDs? I think it would have been easier to read it ;)

  18. Coffee and a Book Chick - Oh, I loved The Count! For that one, I put everything else aside and gave it my full attention.

DS - Definitely my longest book of the year! Dickens weaves quite a story.

Amanda - Feels like quite an accomplishment ;-) Hope to get the post written before Thanksgiving...

Tony - The audio/print combo actually worked pretty well for me. I listened in the car and read at home.

  19. Congratulations!
It's the only novel by Dickens I've read, but I loved it and it took me less time than I thought to read it.
