I love fall and October is my favorite month of the year! The weather and foliage were glorious, so we visited quite a few parks, trails, and historic sites. This photo, taken early in the month at Gillette Castle, looks south down the Connecticut River.
Our NYC daughter and son-in-law and my sister-in-law all visited in October. We took a couple of short trips, too. First was five days in NYC. Highlights included an afternoon at the newly renovated Frick Collection and dinner at the Gramercy Tavern. My husband has been wanting to try their tasting menu for years! We ended the month with a trip to central NY for my nephew's wedding.
As for reading, I finished four book - all four or five stars - early in the month. I barely had time to read for the last week or two.

How was your October? What was your favorite book?
My October was good. Enjoyed what I read. Took a trip to Phoenix the last week of the month for a conference that my husband had for work. I just tagged along, but I did get to attend two author events at the Poisoned Pen Bookstore there. Lots of fun. November will be quite busy for us too, but we've been having nice weather. ReplyDeleteKay - Your trip to Phoenix sounds great - two author events! I'm still waiting for my rescheduled event with Lily King, which will happen at the end of next week. We just have one long weekend trip this month, but plenty of visitors! I'm keeping my reading expectations in check.
DeleteI love NYC! We were there in March and got to see a lot of snow. I may get a copy of the Mahler book.
ReplyDeleteVicki - I can't believe it had been almost a year since we'd been there! One daughter has moved to CT, and the one still in the city would rather escape to the country... especially during the warm weather months! The NYC book is turning out to be a real page-turner.
DeleteThat's a pretty photo of the Connecticut River! I don't know if I have a favorite month, but fall is lovely with the pretty colors and cool temps. Honestly, though, I think June might be my favorite since the rains have stopped and I can start wearing shorts and sandals.

Les - I've always loved fall and missed it for the years we headed back to FL in Sept/Oct. Now the "kids" would rather not travel during for holidays and we don't want to drive back & forth twice. We're trying to work out a new normal.
ReplyDeleteThe Beth Brower books are so much fun! The first was good, but they really took off in book 2. I started book 3 last night and can't wait to pick it up again later tonight.
I'm looking forward to rereading The Uncommon Reader. May go the audio route this time. I still think The Correspondent may be my favorite book of the year. Happy November!
I read The Promise in the last year. It mostly worked for me, but I found it a bit slow. All your travels and visiting family sounds wonderful. I was in NY in September and hope to go back in the spring.

DeleteWhat an October you had! I am doing a buddy read with Susan - The Art Thief - and it's very good. I'd love to see some of those displays you visited. One of my highlights in life was visting the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, seeing The Nightwatch painting. Just wow.

Tina - I'll be curious to hear what you and Susan think of The Art Thief. I've had that on my radar for a while now. Have you read Writers & Lovers by Lily King? Heart the Lover is both a prequel and a sequel, but it also works on its own. Hope your library gets a copy of the Dalton novel, it was a nice way to wrap up the series. Happy November.
