TSS: Back in Business

Good morning! Just a quick post to let you know I'm still here - it's been a busy week and there hasn't been much blogging. Daughter #1 came home from her summer in NYC, Twin A returned from her trip to Germany, and Twin B had out-patient surgery (she's fully recovered now!). As a result of all this, I'm behind on writing reviews and reading you blogs. Things may not settle down much until after Labor Day, so it could be quieter than usual around here for the rest of the month.

I'm back in business with audiobooks though! My old ipod drowned after falling into the swimming pool and the folks at Apple gave me 10% off on this new iPod Touch. The cute pink silicon sleeve matches my new earhook/earbuds, too! There are many features I'm still investigating, but mostly I'm thrilled to get back to The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot.

This morning I'll finish Summer by Edith Wharton, a book that's been referred to as "Hot Ethan". I'm enjoying it quite a bit and am thinking of quickly reading Ethan Frome before beginning Bleak House (for Amanda's read-along).

The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin is the other book I've been reading this week. At the half-way point I'm finding that, at this point in my life, much of this seems like common sense. But, although I'm switching to 'skim mode',  it has motivated me to clean out my closet! Glad this is a library book...

Now I'm going to pour another cup of coffee and head outside to finish Summer, then I'll finally visit some of your blogs. Enjoy your Sunday!

  1. Oh...your new ipod is so pretty and festive!

I have the Happiness Project on hold at the library (I am hoping that it comes in by Labor Day weekend). I figured that there was a lot of common sense, but sometimes I need to be reminded of those things :)

Have a lovely week - and stay cool!

  2. Nice looking Touch! If something happened to my iPod, I would freak. I have The Happiness Project on my Kindle, and it has been sitting there since January 1st. Someday I'll get to it. Maybe when I'm feeling unhappy.

  3. I must admit that I have yet to get an iPod! I'm always the last to get things, I do believe. VCRs (remember those?) and then DVD players and finally DVRs.

No e-book reader, no i-Pod, no i-Phone. Sad, huh?

I do have a cell phone, and it's a touch phone, but not fancy. Not necessary for me, since I don't access the Internet from my phone. I could, but it feels weird to me.

I guess my only advancement over my peers (people in my age group!) is that I do a lot of blogging! lol

Enjoyed your salon...my eldest son lives in Germany.

    Here's my Salon:

  7. Get well, Twin B!

That new iPod with the matching earbuds is so cute! I have a Samsung for my Gothic/symphonic metal collection. Don't know if it supports audiobooks, though.

  8. Love the current reading choices! And completely understand needing a moment right now. But that bit of reading outside and the new iPod should go a long way to restoring your equilibrium in the busiest times. Happy reading!

  9. Do read Ethan Frome! It's a great (if depressing) read. And I need to read Summer myself.

I completely understand needing some time off blogging. Enjoy the rest of the month, JoAnn!

  10. I got to visit The Mount, Edith Wharton's home and estate this summer. Now I want to read some more of her work. I know very little of it.

  11. Molly - The Happiness Project is a lot of common sense, but you're right... it's good to have a reminder every now and then!

Sandy - I went through withdrawal without an ipod - lol! I'd say no rush on The Happiness Project. I'm betting you've got most of those things under control already.

Laurel-Rain Snow - I have kind of a love-hate relationship with gadgets and technology... and I HATE instruction manuals! Don't know where I'd be without help from my daughters.

Verity - The pink case was a little splurge, but I kept telling myself it was to protect it.

Diane - It has been crazy this week, but I love it when everybody is home!

Stephanie - I'm loving Henrietta Lacks. Who knew science could be riveting??

EL Fay - The new ipod is great, but this one won't be going anywhere near the water!!

Frances - Things are always crazy this time of year, but the new ipod sure helps. I finished Summer yesterday and love it... hope you get through all that laundry!!

Nymeth - It's probably been 20 years since I read Ethan Frome, but I hope to pick up a copy today (or find the one that's around here somewhere). I loved Summer and, if I wasn't already committed to Bleak House, could easily start on an Edith Wharton binge!

CB James - Wasn't The Mount beautiful?! It was summer when I visited, but it would be great to go back in the fall when the leaves are changing. I'm already dropping a few hints!

  12. Glad to hear the girls are all doing well! I'm sure it's going to be quite the hive of activity in your house getting them ready for back to school.

Your new 'touch' is fabulous and makes my Nano look really, really boring!

  13. Darlene - LOL! I'm starting to think my nano should have 'gone swimming' a long time ago!

  15. Well that was some week! Hope this one is calmer--and nothing electronic falls into the pool! I'm sure it's lovely having all your girls together again...

  16. Booksnyc - I've decided to reread Ethan Frome after all!

DS - A house full of girls makes me very happy :-)

  17. That is very cool that Apple gave you a discount! Do you use Audio.com for your books??? I just bought an iTouch and so I'm not sure where to start with the audio books!!

  18. Staci - I've had a membership with audible.com for almost 8 years. For a yearly fee, you get a certain number of credits that can be used to purchase books. They are downloaded and automatically transfer to my itunes account.

I'm not familiar with audio.com. I just typed it in, saw a notice for "exciting news coming soon" and was asked for my email. Strange because there was also an ad for audible.com on the page.
