The Sunday Salon: Record Brevity
Four more days until it's over. The TBR Dare comes to an end March 31. In an ideal world, the last 'dare' book would be completed around 10:30 PM Thursday night, leaving me ready to pounce on a stack of new books Friday morning. But this is the real world, and it will probably take longer to finish Wolf Hall. It is rich, complex, detailed, and interesting... but very slow. After nearly ten days, I find myself just past the half-way mark. I'm never dying to pick it up, yet it always manages to hold my attention.
The coffee is poured and Wolf Hall is waiting. Enjoy your Sunday, and I'll be back later this evening to blog hop.

I'm in the midst of a 700 pager myself, but I should finish it by Monday or Tuesday. I think I will find something that I can finish by April 1. Going out to buy a totally new book on April 1, sounds like a wonderful idea.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with Wolf Hall! It sounds like a demanding book, but worth the time investment.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you are talking about here. That new Flavia de Luce piece of fun has been eyeing me for weeks. Killing me. But there is Friday....
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your approaching TBR Dare victory, JoAnn, and best of luck with the rest of Wolf Hall. I'm hoping to read that later in the year and will look forward to your post on it.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about "Wolf Hall". I found it a slow read and loved every bit of it. I have a pile of books on hold at the library and am not sure which one I will start reading on the 1st. Have a good week, JoAnn!
ReplyDeleteI'm eying my tbr stack now because of the TBR Dare. I'm trying to hit my magic number (25) before Thursday night. I have six more books to go. Either I'm going to need to read shorter books or read faster! Have a great Sunday!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, that lovely stack of books from London! But don't let me tempt you...you've done really, really well, JoAnn.
ReplyDeleteI hear you! It has been a wonderful but LOOOOONG three months of chastity. With regards to Wolf Hall, that is probably why I may never try the book. Scares the hell out of me.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed your cup of joe and that the reading was wonderful! I'm sorry to see this weekend come to an end but hopefully warmer temps are in store for both of us!!
ReplyDeleteSo close to the end!! I await your thoughts on Wolf Hall. It's been sitting on my shelf for far too long!
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a nice Sunday reading Wolf Hall! I think it's one of those books that's better read for several hours at a time then just an hour here or there because of its complexity and many characters.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're enjoying it.
The TBR Dare seems like a great challenge. I'm going to think about participating next year!
JoAnn, you are a braver, better woman (and reader!) than I. Good luck with Wolf Hall and congratulations on reaching the end of the dare!
ReplyDeleteC.B. James - You must be a fast reader! I think you should definitely treat yourself to a new book on the first.
ReplyDeleteNymeth - Thanks, you're exactly right!
Frances - Bet I know what you'll be reaching for on Friday ;-)
Richard - Thank you. Wolf Hall has been quite an unusual book for me. I really enjoy it while I'm reading, but almost dread picking it up.
Gavin - Wolf Hall is the slowest book I've read in quite some time, but still a very enjoyable read.
Vasilly - I didn't read anywhere near the number of books I was hoping to, but the tbr dare was still a great experience.
Darlene - That stack of London books has been waiting in the grey Persephone tote. I didn't even dare put them on the shelf... the temptation would have been far too great!
Sandy - There may be good reason for that fright!
Staci - I was a perfect Sunday morning. Wish I could have read a few more pages though...
Erin - It sat on my shelf for almost 2 years!
Amy - I think you're right. I can't pick it up and read for just a few minutes, I really need a bigger chunk of time.
DS - Wolf Hall is definitely pushing the limits of my 'braveness'...
