Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week we're talking about our favorite authors. Specifically, books they've written that we haven't read - yet. Let's get right to it...
Books By My Favorite Authors That I Still Haven’t Read
The Space Between Us by Thrity Umrigar
It's been on my shelf for years. What am I waiting for?
Abide With Me by Elizabeth Strout
I've loved all her books. This is the only one I haven't read.
Imagined London: A Tour of the World's Greatest Fictional City by Anna Quindlen
One of her nonfiction books... I bought this at the library sale a couple of summers ago.
Purity by Jonathan Franzen
Love him or hate him, there's no middle of the road when it comes to Jonathan Franzen.
The Way We Live Now by Anthony Trollope
Over 1000 pages, but Trollope is worth it!
Young Hearts Crying by Richard Yates
His novels tend to be depressing, but I love them. This is one of a couple I've yet to read.
The Position by Meg Wolitzer
I'm on a mission to read Wolitzer's entire backlist.
The Spectator Bird by Wallace Stegner
Stegner's Crossing to Safety may just be my favorite novel. I have this ready to go on audio.
Clock Dance by Anne Tyler
Her latest novel... the waiting list is long.
The Only Story by Julian Barnes
I haven't read a lot of Barnes, but everything I've read has been wonderful.
Are there novels by your favorite authors you've been meaning to read?
I had a hard time with The Space Between Us. I've read more than one book by the author and I guess her writing doesn't jive with me.
ReplyDeleteTi - I've only read a couple of Umrigar's books, but love her writing and storytelling skills. My sister just discovered her this year, too.
DeleteI've read some other books by your favorites, but not any of these. So many books, right???
ReplyDeleteKay - You said it! I'll probably never get to all the books on my list... sigh.
DeleteDo not wait! Read The Space Between Us ASAP! Soooo good!
ReplyDeleteLes - I've got my paperback copy waiting in Florida. There were a couple of times over the summer that I wished I had it here...
DeleteThe Space Between Us is an awesome novel!! I highly recommend it.
ReplyDeleteHere's a link to my TTT post for this week:
https://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2018/09/top-ten-tuesday-books-by-my-favorite.html
Captivated Reader - Thanks for the recommendation! I'd like to get my book club to read it, too.
DeleteI liked Clock Dance a lot. I need to read The Space Between Us too.
ReplyDeleteKathy - I never got a chance to read Clock Dance when my library hold came in the first time. Hope I have better luck next time around!
DeleteI like Anna Quindlen, but I'm WAAYYY behind on reading her books. One of these days I'll catch up. Hopefully.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
Susan - I love Anna Quindlen's books, especially her nonfiction.
DeleteThe Way We Live Now is absolutely brilliant -- it's long, but a fast read. I got completely sucked in and could not stop, I kept sneaking off to read just one more chapter! It was my very first Trollope and I am so glad that he wrote 47 novels!
ReplyDeleteKaren K. - I'm starting to think there is no such thing as a 'too long' Trollope novel! I'd like to read all 47, too :)
DeleteI was debating on The Position or Ten Year Nap for Wolitzer on my list...they're both on my TBR! And I've never heard of that Anna Quindlen..will have to check that out!
ReplyDeleteSarah - I read The Ten Year Nap earlier this year and it was another winner. I'd never heard of that particular Quindlen until I cam across it at our library sale. Another possibility for Nonfiction November...
DeleteIt is simply because too many other books grab our attention, it’s haed to go back to an old One.
ReplyDeletePatty - You are absolutely right! There are so many books I love and want to read everything the author has ever written, yet hyped new books are always popping up. What's a reader to do??
DeleteJoAnn,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful theme for a blog post! If one day I borrow it, I will give the credit to you.
Your reading always fascinates me, I have learned of so many great books from you, and this post finds me noting down authors and titles.
I'm intrigued by so many of those you've noted. And 1,000 pages for the Trollope--sounds like a good deal of fun in store for you.
Judith - Top Ten Tuesday has so many interesting topics, though I tend to pick and choose the ones that suit me. This was an easy choice... every year or two I discover an author whose work I love. Naturally I want to read everything they've written, yet I rarely get around to it. I'm almost there with several, but you know how it goes...
DeleteI haven't read any of these but I see so many authors here I'd like to try. There are so many amazing authors and books that I've just yet to get to!
ReplyDeleteKatherine - I sure know that feeling!
DeleteI've read two or three books of Sarah Addison Allen's and I still haven't finished up the rest but I've enjoyed every single one I've read.
ReplyDeleteHeather - Allen is another author I keep meaning to try! One of these days...
DeleteThe Space Between Us is my favorite by Umrigar. I hope you love it when you get to it, JoAnn. I still haven't read anything by Sarah Addison Allen. One of these days! I hope you get a chance to read all of these someday!
ReplyDeleteWendy - Readers seem to love The Space Between Us... really looking forward to that one!
DeleteI like Umrigar story telling skills.
ReplyDeleteMystica - Yes, she is such a great storyteller!
DeleteThat's an interesting topic--favorite authors are favorite for a reason, and I usually try to stay up with their new releases, but it's challenging given the competition!
ReplyDeleteJaneGS - It sure is, and lately I've added a few new authors to the list. What's a reader to do? ;-)
DeleteOhh there's many books I've been "meaning" to read for years, yet they still sit on my shelves awaiting me. The novel Purity was an engaging audiobook listen for me. It has a bit of everything in it -- I think you'll like it.
ReplyDeleteSusan - I have Purity in print, but would probably enjoy a read/listen combination even more.
DeleteI always love reading anything by Wallace Stegner, and I have Anthony Trollope and Richard Yates in my TBR.
ReplyDeleteMonica - Stegner is excellent and I just love Trollope. I went on a Richard Yates streak several years ago... loved them all, but it was depressing to read them in quick succession. Yates's writing is outstanding.
DeleteMy Book To be Read shelf only grows and grows. Every time I'm making a dent, more books arrive either by weak moments at the bookstore or a pile handed to me at Book Club. I enjoyed all of Wallace Stegner. Need to get on the Trollope, though.
ReplyDeleteMidlife Roadtripper - My problem, too... what's a reader to do? Hope you end up loving Trollope as much as I do.
DeleteI hadn't heard of the AQ book, and am delighted with the sound of it! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteNan - I'd never heard of it either, but discovered it on the shelf at our library book sale. Look forward to reading it :)
DeleteWasn't Crossing to Safety amazing? I read that so many years ago and sadly have not read another of his books. So many books to read right? Hope you get a chance to read one of these. Lots of interesting titles!
ReplyDeleteIliana - It's been well over a decade since I read Crossing to Safety - definitely overdue for a reread! You know how it goes though. So many books...
DeleteI saw Clock Dance at a bookstore recently and was very close to picking it up. I haven’t read anything by the author, but it sounds like a good book.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
AJ - My daughter just read Clock Dance. It was her second Tyler novel... she liked it, but didn't love it. I still plan to read though.
DeleteI've only read one of those but so many are on my TBR. The Space Between Us is one of my all-time fave books!
ReplyDeleteLisa - I remember you saying how much you loved The Space Between Us. My copy is in Florida, and I'm hoping to finally read it the winter.
