BBAW: Reading Meme

Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?
I mostly drink ;-) ...coffee, water, tea, wine (depending on the time of day)

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of
writing in books horrify you?
write in books??? horror!

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears?
Bookmark... preferably related somehow to the book

Laying the book flat open?
Don't break the spine!

Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?
Variety is the spice of life

Hard copy or audiobooks?
see above

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?
It depends on how tired I am.

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away?
Sometimes... if a dictionary isn't available, I'll write it down to look up later.

What are you currently reading?
The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins (started last night)
Little Bee by Chris Cleave (audio)

What is the last book you bought?
French Milk by Lucy Knisley

Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can
you read more than one at a time?
one book (sometimes two), one audio

Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read?
I'll read whenever I can carve out a half hour, but always in the evening before bed.

Do you prefer series books or stand alone books?
Again, variety is the spice of life.

Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over?
It depends on who I'm recommending to.

How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?)
Books I've read are organized by genre, but the tbr pile is a mess!

  1. I'm reading in between visits to blogs this morning! I am a great multi-tasker!

  2. Don't you find yourself wishing for a second wind when you are too tired to read another word? Can't wait to see what you think of The Woman in White. I was thinking about it reading it in October but Savidge Reads has me considering The Haunted Hotel. I enjoyed reading your answers.

  3. Book Psmith: Ooh! "The Haunted Hotel" sounds interesting... I need to look that up...

Okay, back to JoAnn! I love these Reading Meme things! I'm devouring them this morning before school! It's really fun to compare other people's reading habits to your own!

  4. I love to read about other people's reading habits. Sometimes what I think are oddities in me are quirks shared by a lot of people. Gives me hope that I'm not as nuts as people say I am ;)

  9. Nise' - I have trouble multi-tasking when reading is one of the tasks. I get so absorbed in my book that I forget about whatever else I'm supposed to be doing!

Gautami - That must be why you can visit and comment on so many blogs ;-)

Book Psmith - I often wish for a second wind. It seems like I get tired pretty quickly, or else it's just too late when I finally settle down to read. BTW, I got a pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks today...yum!!

Madeleine - I've had fun visiting blogs featuring this meme today!

Hazra - It has been fun learning about other reader's habits. Many of us have the same ones!

Claire - I use sticky notes to remember words I need to look up (and sometimes even remember to follow through). Hope we can compare notes on WIW.

Stacybuckeye - I've been wanting to read WIW ever since I read The Moonstone a few years ago. I just loved that one!

  10. Diane - It does seem like a lot of us are reading WIW right now. Maybe it's the RIP challenge, or just the season? You'll be sick of it by the time all the reviews start appearing at the same time!

Kim - Aww, thanks! I'm on my way over now...
