Today's Top Ten Tuesday topic gave me a chance to think about all the new-to-me authors I read in 2021... and there were quite a few. They seemed to be a mix of debut authors and authors I've been meaning to read for years.

Here are my top ten author discoveries of 2021, in no particular order,  along with the title of the book I read.

1. Joyce Maynard

4. Ed Tarkington

5. Patricia Engel

6. Kate Quinn

7. Asha Lemmie

8. Elizabeth Acevedo

9. Sayaka Murata

10. Joshua Henkin

Have you read any of these authors? What authors did you discover in 2021?

  6. I have read books by both Joshua Henkin and Joyce Maynard and enjoyed their work. I don't think Henkin gets mentioned enough. I read my first Kate Quinn book this past year as well and really enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing!

  11. I didn't discover Kate Quinn in 2021, but I absolutely loved The Rose Code, and now consider her a favorite author. Isabel Wilkerson, Stanley Tucci, and Ed Tarkington were also new to me in 2021 and are part of my pantheon of favorites.

It's always a treat to find new authors to follow and enjoy.

  15. The only one I've read from your list is Convenience Store Woman. I've seen Tucci and Quinn mentioned a few times today. I'm not a foodie so Tucci's book isn't calling to me but I'm starting to think I need to add Quinn to my TBR now.

  16. Now that you've discovered Joyce Maynard, I recommend The Usual Rules. It was such a great book when I read it all those years ago.

I just finished Taste and wrote up my review this afternoon. Excellent memoir!! I love it.

I have so many of your other books on my list. Sadly, I didn't care for Convenience Store Woman. However, all the others sound great!

    1. Les - I'm so glad you loved Taste, too! Thanks for the Joyce Maynard recommendation... I'll certainly be reading more of her this year. Convenience Store Woman struck a chord with me on audio but, after reading a few reviews, I don't plan on reading her latest novel.

  18. Ooh, Joyce Maynard is an excellent name to see on these lists. I've been meaning to read several of hers for years, especially The Usual Rules, but so far it's just been The Cloud Chamber (which I didn't even realize was her until after, haha. Though it was great, if very somber -- as I think her work tends to be).

    1. RS - I'm looking forward to exploring more of Maynard's work, both fiction and nonfiction.
