Happy Super Bowl Sunday, an unofficial national holiday. Do you have plans to watch the big game? Or just the commercials? Is food the main draw? Personally, I can't wait for the Buffalo Chicken Wing Dip...a once-a-year treat for me. Can the Super Bowl possibly be as exciting as the Seattle/Green Bay play-off game a couple weeks ago? Are you as sick of deflate-gate as I am? And the really big question... what about the Downton Abbey conflict??? I will certainly abandon the game come Downton time.
Current reading//
The Warden by Anthony Trollope
Is this even the same book I read 15 years ago? I'm enjoying it so much more this time around and am already looking forward to Barchester Towers. I'll finish today... not sure what I'll pick up next.Audrey's tempting tidbits from this Trollope biography by Victoria Glendinning prompted me to pick up a copy for myself last week. It will be a long-term companion read to my Barsetshire project.
On the blog//
Tuesday Intro: Reading Barsetshire
Review: Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng
Not Exactly Euphoric - my review of Euphoria by Lily King
Later today//
- a walk on the beach
- a trip to the farmers market
- The Super Bowl, but only until Downton time
Happy February, friends!
This post will link to It's Monday, What are you Reading? hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.
I'm in it for the commercials! :--)
ReplyDeleteJill - There were some good ones! I was partial to the JFK cruise and my husband got a kick out of the viagra/fiat commercial.
DeleteI'm so glad you're joining me in Barsetshire (and that The Warden has improved! :)} I've been amusing myself this morning thinking about eating nachos and chicken wings during Downton Abbey {even though I won't, I promise.} Your day sounds so nice...
ReplyDeleteAudrey - I finished The Warden and was very tempted to download and start Barchester Towers immediately... my kindle even suggested it when I reached the 100% mark!
DeleteWe're going to a Super Bowl party and I'm all about the socializing. Our friends have one room for the people who are serious about the game and I stay out of it!
ReplyDeleteKathy - My FIL went to a big party and hung out in the room with the "serious viewers", lol.
DeleteThose pictures of the sunset and the beach are making me wish summer was here. Hope you enjoy the game tonight!
ReplyDeleteAThira - I almost feel guilty posting photos of beautiful weather every week ;-)
DeleteI had forgotten about last year's Super Bowl. So boring!! We stay home though the kids tend to go to various parties. But I'm making a yummy sounding loaded potato dip and intend to read with one eye and watch the game with the other. Have a lovely week! Enjoy your time with Trollope!
ReplyDeleteKatherine - This year's game was anything but boring, lol. The dip sounds delicious!
DeleteAs usual, lots of hype around Super Bowl. I'll watch the commercials and half-time show, but nothing comes between me and Downton Abbey.
ReplyDeleteHave a great (snow-free) week!
Catherine - I switched back to the game immediately after Downton in time to see that dramatic ending!
DeleteI haven't watched the Superbowl for many years...but I know it will be a big production over at my daughter's house...maybe I should sneak in there...LOL.
ReplyDeleteI loved Everything I Never Told You, too.
Enjoy your new week...and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES
Laurel-Rain Snow - It's been over a month since I finished that book and am still thinking about it! So, so good.
DeleteI'm glad that you've got your priorities in order - Downton>football.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your dip!
Shaina - LOL! Not everyone agrees, so I'm glad you approve ;-)
DeleteWe won't be watching the game - well, I won't. Hubby says he won't either, but we'll see. Your dip sounds good. The pictures are lovely. And Downton - this is a year filled with uncomfortable situations of all kinds isn't it? Interested to see where things go in lots of areas. :-)
ReplyDeleteKay - Dowton proved to be another week of uncomfortable situations... loving this season!
DeleteThree weeks from today I'll be in FLA.
ReplyDeleteWait until you meet Josiah Crawley - no, not at Downton, but in Barsetshire!
GSGreatEscaper - I finished The Warden last night and almost started the next Barchester book immediately... you've made me very curious about Josiah Crawley! Hope the three weeks fly by for you - it is beautiful in Florida right now :)
DeleteI won't be watching either. I was thinking of heading out to shop for a much-needed new couch, because the stores might be empty then - but I think the sales staff might also be distracted. A Sunday with Anthony Trollope sounds lovely :)
ReplyDeleteLisa - I finished The Warden and am hoping we have not seen the end of Mr. Harding! Did you end up shopping for the couch?
DeleteThose books look very interesting! A beach walk! Enjoy!
ReplyDeletePatty - I read so many new releases last year and seem to be on a classics streak at the moment. Wonder how long it will last...
DeleteMy husband came in yesterday with Chicago mix popcorn (half caramel/half cheddar) and I asked, "Is that for the Super Bowl?" He said, "Yes, Downton Abbey," and we laughed. It's got to be better than the game without any Bears...or, Packers. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for happy birthday wishes, too. xo
Bellezza - Hmm, Chicago mix popcorn is a new one for me... sounds interesting. Hope you're enjoying the snow day!
DeleteI am a Pats fan, but mostly enjoy the commercials :)
ReplyDeleteDiane - What an amazing comeback!
DeleteWatching the game while catching up on my blog-hopping. Pretty exciting right now with just 2 minutes remaining. I'm rooting for the Hawks since I have a deep love for the PNW.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're enjoying your time at the beach. I'm counting the days until spring now that we've had our big snowstorm. Another frigid night, so we're dripping our faucets.
Les - I switched back to the game immediately after Downton Abbey and got to see the dramatic ending - WOW!
DeleteThe game was on for a bit, but we also watched Downton. I bought party snack foods and enjoyed not cooking dinner.
ReplyDeleteAnita - I was happy to get a break from cooking dinner, too. Also glad to see the dramatic ending to the game after Downton.
DeleteI took the opportunity to go to Target during the game and it was awesome! The store was nearly empty. I think since the game was in Glendale (about 20 miles from my town) I was sick of hearing about it. It's all the local news talked about this week. I'm glad the Patriots won, though.
ReplyDeleteAnbolyn - A nearly empty Target sounds pretty good to me. Your knitting project (on instagram) is beautiful.
DeleteWow, what is that on the beach? A starfish?
ReplyDeleteI live in Australia but one of the guys who works for my company works remotely from the US and he was having the day off for the Superbowl!
Deborah - Yes, I took that starfish picture this week. There were more starfish than I have ever seen last Sunday/Monday... amazing!
DeleteHope the Superbowl and Downton both turned out the way you would like :-)
ReplyDeleteBrona - I enjoyed them both!
DeleteWatched the game. Watched Downton Abbey after -tape delayed. The colors of the dresses are marvelous are they not?
ReplyDeleteAs much as I didn't want to watch, the game, i did. Not a fan of either team, especially after the stunned loss the Packers endured two week ago. I digress.
But, yes, Go Pack - next year.
Midlife Roadtripper - I still can't get over the Packers loss in the playoffs! We have no DVR here in FL, but I watched Downton Abbey and switched back just in time for the last couple of minutes. Stunning.
DeleteI'm not sure how many more episodes of Downton we have left, but I will hate to see it end.
My husband and I ate big plates of nachos in recognition of Super Bowl Sunday. It is sort of a tradition now. Time to get on the elliptical again. I'm glad you had a good reading week. Enjoy the beautiful weather in Fla.
ReplyDeletePat - Haha, yes... those snacks killed me yesterday, too!
DeleteWe always watch ... but it's usually background noise; we look up when the commentators get all excited.
ReplyDeleteBeth F - There was plenty of excitement at the end last night! ;-)
DeleteLove that sunset! Enjoy Trollope!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Harvee. I did!
DeleteLovely photographs JoAnn! Glad you are enjoying Downton. Happy reading :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lindsay :)
DeleteI am all about the commercials but last night's game was a good one with a lot of suspense. I ended up recording Downton and watching it later. Enjoy the lovely weather in Florida - we are certainly not getting it here!
ReplyDeleteColleen - That was the best Super Bowl in years! I did switch to Downton (no DVR here), but it ended in time for the final two minutes of the game.
DeleteThat sounds like a perfect Sunday! It has been so gloomy here. All I want to do is huddle under a blanket with a book and some coffee!
ReplyDeleteLindsey - That's the best thing to do in cold weather, I think.
DeleteI watched a bit but being the UK the timings don't work. I don't think I've ever read any Trollope.
ReplyDeleteEmma - I've only read one of his novels, but 2015 will be my year for Trollope!
DeleteDefinitely sick of deflate-gate. You can't even imagine how bad it is here in Indiana. Being in the Colts hometown means it's on every news station!
ReplyDeleteMelissa - I'm sure deflate-gate is even worse in Colt country. Hope it'll go away now.
DeleteWow - a walk on the beach sounds just about perfect right now! Sounds much better than 3 feet of ice/snow that's in my yard :) Glad you're enjoying The Warden even more the second time around - it's always nice when that happens :)
ReplyDeleteSarah - The Warden was definitely a pleasant surprise. I'm looking forward to the other novels in the series now.
DeleteI listened to The Warden a few months back and really enjoyed it. I need to follow your lead and read on!
ReplyDeleteLisa - Yes, do that!!
DeleteI had to host this year and our soups to represent each team were fabulous! YAY Pats - it was quite exciting.
ReplyDeleteCare - Love the soup idea! May have to borrow that next year :-)
DeleteWe are not really big sports people in our house, so we never watch the Superbowl - although I wouldn't be opposed to snacking on all sorts of Superbowl snacks! Lol. Hope your week was a good one!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Erin!
