Today's Post is Brought to You By the Letter...

It all started with Simon. He began assigning letters to bloggers who agreed to list their favorite books, authors, movies, songs, and objects beginning with said letter. Anyone playing along can then "give" letters (using random.org) to others wanting to play along.  Frances got her letter from Simon, then selected one for Bellezza, who assigned a letter to Audrey... the source of my M.

Favorite book:

The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins. I actually left a New Year's Eve party early to go home and finish this book. No joke, that happened in 2004.

Favorite  author:

This one is easy - Jojo Moyes. Since December I've read Me Before You, The Girl You Left Behind, and Honeymoon in Paris. Over the weekend I started The Ship of Brides. She sure can tell a story!

Favorite song:

I had to think about this a little longer but decided on Paul McCartney's Maybe I'm Amazed. Yes, I'm that old!

Favorite movie:

I'll go with Midnight in Paris - romance, Paris, time travel, 1920's, Hemingway, Fitzgerald. Who could ask for more?

Favorite object:

Miniature poodles, black. As much as I love greyhounds, my youth was spent with these smart little dogs and they still hold a special place in my heart. Don't tell Zelda...

Would you like to play?
Let me know and I'll assign you a letter.

  1. Great choices, esp. your song. I'm so glad you joined in, and that you didn't get X. (There has to be a do-over if anyone does, though...) Have a great week!

    1. Audrey - Don't know what I would have done with the letter X, but the song might have involved Olivia Newton-John ;-)

  3. This has been such fun, seeing the different letters and choices. You'very reminded me that I still haven't seen Midnight in Paris, and I have some Wilkie Collins on the TBR stacks.

  7. Oh, JoAnn you did this spectacularly! I even know all of your choices (I think that's a first for this meme and I; everyone else had a few responses that were totally obscure to me). Love Moonstone, Moyes and Midnight in Paris especially. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Bellezza - LOL! Some of these letter posts have left me feeling rather ignorant... guess I have more conventional tastes.

  8. Oh I am horrid at these things, but you did a great job. I love everything on here (although my favorite Wings song is "With a Little Luck"). Kathy is right, liking the Wings doesn't make you old. Hell, my son likes them! Love The Moonstone, and I think it is totally fitting that you left a party to go finish it.

  10. The Moonstone is such a fun read! I've read that & The Woman in White, and I keep meaning to try something else by Collins.

    1. Sam - Those are the only two Collins novels I've read, but I hope to read either No Name or Armadale for my Classics Club list.

  11. I haven't read Moonstone but I mean too and I haven't seen Midnight in Paris but I really really should! I love the picture of the poodle too. Our neighbor had 2 when I was growing up and they were really sweet little dogs.

  12. I can relate to leaving a party early to finish a great book. Moonstone is a wonderful choice--the more I read of Wilkie Collins, the more I like him.

Never saw Midnight in Paris, but it's now on my watch list--I love stuff like this :)

I've never read anything by JoJo Moyes, but you haven't steered me wrong yet.

Hey, that's a Paul McCartney song when he was with Wings, not even the Beatles, so it's still a new song as far as I'm concerned.

I've heard (mostly from James Thurber) that poodles are very smart dogs, and with all that cuteness too, I can understand your lifelong love for them.

I don't need a letter as I've already played this fun meme.

    Happy Summer!

    1. JaneGS - I just love Wilkie Collins and find him even more accessible than Dickens (sorry!). Have only read The Moonstone and Woman in White, but will definitely read another from my Classics Club list.

Jojo Moyes is not great literature, but I love the way she tells a story. Have enjoyed several of her books and will eventually work my way through her backlist

So... as long as Paul McCartney was with Wings, that must make it a newer song. I like that reasoning!

Poodles are the best (aside from greyhounds) and you really must watch Midnight in Paris!

  13. I had fun with this game too. I finished Moonstone last night for our July book club meeting. It was great fun and I can see why you went home from a party to finish it. I have also enjoyed Midnight in Paris. It was good fun. Enjoyed this post and game.

    1. Pam - I'm still getting grief from people at that party and it's been ten years! Hope to watch Midnight in Paris (yet again) for Paris in July.

BTW, I haven't been able to comment on your bog for a while. Are my comments going to your spam folder or are they not even making it that far? SO frustrating... I'm really not ignoring you :-)

    1. James - I know of others who struggled with The Moonstone. Have you tried any of his other works? The Woman is White is very good, too. I'd like to read No Name or Armadale one of these days.

    1. Stacy - I remember that feeling well! If it's any help, The Moonstone is a fairly quick read for a chunkster.
