Reviews coming soon...

A couple of crazy weeks followed by weekends of travel have lead to a sorry scarcity of  'proper' reviews at Lakeside Musing. This week is shaping up to be more of the same and will be followed by a weekend get-away for my husband's birthday. My goal is to carve out an hour or two, find a quiet spot (the one above is on Daughter #1's campus), and finish up some reviews.

Here's what I'm working on:

97 Orchard: An Edible History of Five Immigrant Families in One New York Tenement by Jane Ziegelman. My book club met last Thursday. Now I can include their reaction, too.

Jitters - A Quirky Little Audiobook by Adele Park. I'll also be hosting a give-away.

Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach

The Language of Baklava  by Diana Abu-Jaber.  Saturday's Writer's Almanac told me it was her birthday, but also served as a reminder that this review has been lingering in my draft folder for far too long.

Travels with Charley in Search of America by John Steinbeck

Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger

My google reader is crying out for attention, too.
Wish me luck...

  1. Good luck! The Language of Baklava has been on my wishlist for some time, so I look forward to your review of that one. I also can't wait to hear what you thought of Her Fearful Symmetry.

  3. Well at least you've been reading. (I am a procrastinator when it comes to doing my reviews).

  4. Ooh, I loved Stiff. Can't wait to read your thoughts on that one. And Abu-Jaber...I like her, too. I need to write a post on her latest, Birds of Paradise.

    Good luck with everything!

  5. Nymeth - I feel so guilty about The Language of Baklava... thought I posted on it two months ago, but there it was in my draft folder.

Staci - Thanks. I have been slacking on reviews, but am going to make up for it :-)

Diane - With all this driving, I've definitely been listening to more audiobooks!

Softdrink - Stiff was definitely a departure from my normal fare. Will look for your Birds of Paradise review. I want to read that one, too.

  8. Good luck! (Oh, and I listened The Elegance of the H. and liked it that way. But if you stick with it I think (I don't want to say why) you'll appreciate it. I wasn't sure I liked it all that much during, but I definitely would say I did after!

  9. Margot - 97 Orchard wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but it was still very good. Will finish that review first.

Beth F - I've read/listened to some really great books this fall... mostly recommended by other bloggers.

Audrey - Elegance of the Hedgehog is slowly growing on me... I'll definitely stick with it!
