Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout has won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction! Hurray! I loved Olive Kitteridge and rated it 5/5 when I reviewed it in January. It was my book club's February selection; I wrote about the meeting here.
Winners were announced this afternoon. A complete list can be found here.
Well done JoAnn! It's always a great feeling to have a book that you really enjoyed recognized and this is in a HUGE way!
ReplyDeleteYea you for calling this one! It has been on my TBR list for quite a while, but I just have not made the time to read it. I am now number 16 in line to obtain a copy from my library (although perhaps my the time it is my turn school could be out and I will actually have time to read it)
ReplyDeleteLoved this book! I was fortunate to hear Elizabeth Strout read from OLIVE and take questions at an author breakfast this fall. So nice to hear the words in the author's voice.
ReplyDeleteDarlene,
ReplyDeleteI'd read that Olive Kitteridge was a longshot to win, but am so happy that it did!
Molly,
You're probably getting so busy now that there won't be much time before the end of the school year anyway! I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did...it's my favorite book of the year, so far.
Dawn,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great opportunity! I love to hear authors read their work.
There are some audiobooks I have appreciated even more because they are read by the author...most recently The Tortilla Curtain by T.C. Boyle.
Now I definitely have to read this one. I read her other books but for some reason haven't gotten to this one.
ReplyDeleteWoo Hoo!! I'm so glad this book won. I didn't really think it had a chance, though. I absolutely loved this one!
ReplyDeleteLisa,
ReplyDeleteI read somewhere that Olive Kitteridge was considered a longshot, but I'm so glad it won!
It's my favorite book so far this year...along with Therese Raquin.
Book Psmith,
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely read this! I read Amy and Isabelle several years ago, but still haven't gotten to Abide With Me.

ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm on my way over...
I'm going to have to find out more about this book! I'm a little ashamed to say I hadn't heard of it. Do I live under a rock? Maybe! :)

ReplyDeleteOlive Kitteridge is a series of short stories that paints a picture of life in a small Maine town. They are connected by Olive, a larger-than-life character, who makes an appearance in each one. It is my favorite book so far this year! (Therese Raquin, read for your challenge, is a close second)
...and even if you do live under a rock, I'm sure it's a very nice, book-filled one ;-)
