November Reading Wrap-Up

Before too much of December gets away from me, I want to post my November reading wrap-up. Overall it wasn't the greatest reading month. Between the election and Thanksgiving travels, I didn't read as much as I'd planned. But I did enjoy the four books I did finish.

BOOKS READ IN NOVEMBER

short stories, reread, audio,⭐⭐⭐💫

nonfiction, travel memoir, ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Weyward by Emilia Hart
historical fiction, read/listen combination, book club, ⭐⭐⭐⭐

A Good Life by Virginie Grimaldi
literary fiction, in translation, ⭐⭐⭐⭐

DECEMBER READING POSSIBILITIES

The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro (in progress)
The Wedding People by Alison Espach
Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson
What I Ate in One Year by Stanley Tucci (audio)

I don't expect to read all of these in December. We have another trip to central New York planned mid month, expect a full house over the Christmas holiday, and then we'll pack up and head to Florida! It's always good to have a few books lined up though, right?

  1. Yes, it's always good to have a list of book possibilities. Not that we follow those lists step by step, right? I want to read WEYWARD and have a copy of it on my shelf. Just got through with Liane Moriarty's new book and am looking forward to next spring's selections for the mystery book group I attend. Gayle, the leader, did a great job with picking the books we'll discuss. Can't wait! Have a good weekend!

    1. Kay - Weyward was a real surprise. It's our January book club selection and I picked it up during my early November reading slump. The plan was to just sample it, but I was drawn in right away and just kept reading! Glad to hear you're excited about your upcoming book club picks... it makes such a difference!

    1. Helen - I'm hoping to start The Wedding People this weekend, and bought Black Cake at a recent library book sale. Glad to know you liked them!

  3. Not a bad month! The Wedding People was a recent favorite of mine (on audio). I'm looking forward to Tucci's new book, too. I'm currently listening to Ina Garten's memoir and it's excellent! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, JoAnn. Safe travels to Florida!

    1. Les - Thanks for the reminder about The Wedding People audio. I remember several readers mentioned how good it is, so I just used an audible credit and will make it a read/listen combo! Glad you are enjoying Ina's memoir. I thought the audio was excellent, too. It's one of my favorites this year.

  4. I'm all about Christmas books this time of year, including several haunted Christmas stories. I always reread Jeanette Winterson's Christmas Days, which is 12 spooky holiday stories, starting on Dec. 13 so I finish on Dec. 24. Then Dec. 24-25 I reread the novella Rock Crystal by Adalbert Stifter, in which the bulk of the story takes place on those same days. Some of my favorite holiday traditions!

    1. Amy - I have a love/hate relationship with Christmas books. Most of the holiday romcoms I try are just too silly, but I did enjoy Elin Hilderbrand's Winter series a few years ago and Rosamunde Pilcher's Winter Solstice. I'll take a look at the books you mentioned, thanks!

  5. Despite all the activity you managed to get some good books in. I am starting with Remains of the Day for my first in the classics club. Getting ready to pot and then link in a few days.
Doug had a surgical procedure on his foot so I ave been doing things around the house, spoiling him by making mac and cheese and brownies. Reading took a back seat for a few days.

I am almost finished with Lillian Boxfish - what a delightful book.

    1. Tina - I just finished Remains of the Day last night. It was a slow start, but I ended up really liking it. Lillian Boxfish is a wonderful book... I reread it around this time last year. Hope Doug's foot is healing and I'm sure he's enjoying the mac and cheese and the brownies. Yum!

  6. Have you read Q's Legacy by Hanff? I was a little disappointed by Duchess but absolutely loved that one. Looks like you had some wonderful reading in November. Happy December!

  7. I have Weyward sitting here on my shelf. I'm not sure why I haven't read it!

    1. Deb - I don't read a lot of historical fiction, but quickly got caught up in these three stories!
