This is Not a Review: My Name is Lucy Barton
Random House has asked that reviews for My Name is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout be held until its publication next year and I will respect that.
But...
If you have the opportunity to read an ARC or e-galley now, DO IT. If you do not, mark your calendar and plan to visit a bookstore on January 5, 2016.
This short (around 200 pages) novel is quieter, more introspective, and possesses a little less in the way of plot than Strout's previous offerings, but it is every bit as wonderful.
Look for my full review in January.

They're lucky to have you as a non-reviewer! I haven't read her, but now I will.
ReplyDeleteAudrey - Olive Kitteridge is my favorite!
DeleteI got an ARC after hearing your early comments...and then realizing it was just 200 pages! Yay!
ReplyDeleteSarah - Why am I appreciating short books so much these days? It would have been fine if this one was longer though...
DeleteHa hahahahahaha great nonreview
ReplyDeleteBeth F - Thanks :)
DeleteI can't find that information on my NetGalley forms anywhere....but I guess I need to do a non review, too?
ReplyDeletePatty - In the front matter of the ebook file was a note asking to hold reviews until after publication. I didn't see anything on the Netgalley website.
DeleteI like that it's on the shorter side and that it's quieter. Adding to my TBR. I don't think I'll get an ARC but I'm definitely marking my calendar for January 5, 2016. Excellent non-review!
ReplyDeleteKatherine - Short books have been a plus for me lately... maybe because the last few Trollope books have been quite long. January will be here before we know it!
DeleteI have been wanting to read this author since I saw the Olive Kitteridge mini-series on TV. How have I gone so long without reading her? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLaurel-Rain Snow - I still have not seen all of the mini-series! Watched the first episode on a flight to Florida (loved it!) and need to borrow the rest of it from the library. Olive Kitteridge is my favorite of her novels.
DeleteThanks for the heads up on the new Strout book. I'll put it in my sights!
ReplyDeleteSusan - She's one of my favorite authors!
DeleteYou've certainly piqued my interest.
ReplyDeleteKathy - Hope you get a chance to read it.
DeleteWell, now you have me drooling in curiosity!! Only around 200 pages? I'll be hunting down that ARC!
ReplyDeleteKathy - It's available on Netgalley.
DeleteInteresting! I've been curious about this book, although knowing me, I won't get around to read it until after the entire world has read it first.
ReplyDeletePatience_Crabstick - I go out of my way to read ElizabethStrout!
DeleteEwhat! There is an Olive Kitteridge mini series and I missed it!! This one must be good if you just had to do a 'non-review mention! Will see about getting it.
ReplyDeletePeggy Ann - Yes, it was on HBO (which we don't get). I watched the first episode on a plane, but need to borrow the rest from the library.
DeleteVicki - YES, do make time for Ollive Kitteridge! It's an excellent book.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up JoAnn. Since it is short and your recommend it, I'm going to add this to my 'ToRead' list and keep an eye out for it.
ReplyDeletePat - Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
DeleteOoh didn't know there was a new Elizabeth Strout! I loved Amy and Isabelle. Look forward to your review.
ReplyDeleteVintage Reading - I loved Amy and Isabelle, too. My book club read it the year it was released.
DeleteI was just looking at Strout's books in the bookstore today and thinking it was time for a new one. Yea!
ReplyDeleteLisa - I love her books. They can't come fast enough for me :)
DeleteOh oh oh thanks for the heads up! My first call Monday morning will be to my RH Rep :-)
ReplyDeleteBrona - Hope you love it, too!
