This is Not a Review: My Name is Lucy Barton


Random House has asked that reviews for My Name is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout be held until its publication next year and I will respect that.

But...

If you have the opportunity to read an ARC or e-galley now, DO IT. If you do not, mark your calendar and plan to visit a bookstore on January 5, 2016.

This short (around 200 pages) novel is quieter, more introspective, and possesses a little less in the way of plot than Strout's previous offerings, but it is every bit as wonderful.

Look for my full review in January.

    I got an ARC after hearing your early comments...and then realizing it was just 200 pages! Yay!

      Sarah - Why am I appreciating short books so much these days? It would have been fine if this one was longer though...

      Patty - In the front matter of the ebook file was a note asking to hold reviews until after publication. I didn't see anything on the Netgalley website.

    I like that it's on the shorter side and that it's quieter. Adding to my TBR. I don't think I'll get an ARC but I'm definitely marking my calendar for January 5, 2016. Excellent non-review!

      Katherine - Short books have been a plus for me lately... maybe because the last few Trollope books have been quite long. January will be here before we know it!

    I have been wanting to read this author since I saw the Olive Kitteridge mini-series on TV. How have I gone so long without reading her? Thanks!

      Laurel-Rain Snow - I still have not seen all of the mini-series! Watched the first episode on a flight to Florida (loved it!) and need to borrow the rest of it from the library. Olive Kitteridge is my favorite of her novels.

    Ewhat! There is an Olive Kitteridge mini series and I missed it!! This one must be good if you just had to do a 'non-review mention! Will see about getting it.

      Peggy Ann - Yes, it was on HBO (which we don't get). I watched the first episode on a plane, but need to borrow the rest from the library.
