The Costumes of Downton Abbey: Upstairs

On Saturday I wrote about visiting the Costumes of Downton Abbey exhibit at Winterthur and included photos featuring "downstairs" uniforms. As promised, here are a few costumes worn by the folks upstairs.

These photos were taken with my phone and I obviously have no talent for photography, but if you're a Downton fan, they're sure to bring back happy memories.

  1. This is so so so cool! One (of the man) reasons I love Downtown is for the beautiful costuming. I mean, THOSE DRESSES! #drool

    1. Andi - It was really amazing seeing the detail on these costumes up close... the photos don't even begin to capture it.

  2. Oh what a fun exhibit! I'm sure the costumes were absolutely stunning in person as they're beautiful in pictures. Though I must admit I'm glad the tea length dresses aren't the thing now - I'd never be able to pull it off!

  3. What an interesting exhibit. I suppose all these costumes have been 'retired' and that they won't be needed in the shoot for the coming season. Yes, don't we all wish Downton the series can come more often than just once a year.

    1. Arti - I'm sure it wouldn't do to have any of the Granthams wearing last seasons clothes ;-)

  7. I absolutely love the costumes of DA, especially Lady Mary's outfits. I followed your link to Wintherthur to see if I could be anywhere within striking distance, but alas no.

I didn't see it in your pictures, but did they exhibit Lady Sybil's harem pants outfit--I loved that especially too.

    Thanks for the report.
