Library Loot - oh, no!

No new loot to share today, but I just went to my library's website to renew Someone at a Distance by Dorothy Whipple and it won't let me! Seems that someone else has placed a hold on it. I've got until Friday.

So...no computer today. I'm a little past the half way point of this 400-pager, and thing are really getting good! See you tomorrow...

  1. Too bad that you can't renew your book but I'm glad there's someone else out there waiting for Whipple!

  2. Like Darlene, I am delighted that someone else is going to have the pleasure of reading Whipple! I am sure you will finish it in time, especially as you are now gripped.

I have a 400-page Booker due back at the library tomorrow... somehow I think I will be paying a small fine.

  4. Good luck on the reading. Sometimes the fine is worth being able to finish the book!

  5. Oh JoAnn! I was thrilled that your library could offer a book by Dorothy Whipple (the Cornish Library Service has none), but so sorry that you will have to part with it so soon. I hope that you will be able to immerse yourself until Friday. And you never know - if there is a demand maybe the library will add more to their shelves!

  7. I'm quite sure there isn't aren't any libraries around here with Persephone books, though they do offer some of the old ones in original editions. I've been thinking I must get away from my computer for a while and read my books. Everyone's blogs are just so interesting that I could easily spend the whole day reading them!

  8. Don't you hate when that happens. I do agree that sometimes you just have to pay the fine.

  9. Darlene - I was shocked when I logged on this morning and was told no renewal! Someone must be reading all the latest blogger reviews!

Paperback Reader - I do think I'll finish, but sometimes it's worth the fine! Good luck with your Booker.

Rachel - it must be from all the Persephone Week publicity!

Nise' - I'm hoping to finish in time, but this is such a good book that I'll happily pay the fine if I have to!

  10. Fleurfisher - I was surprised to received a like-new Persephone Classic edition. My library didn't have it, but it was available through inter-library loan. This is a wonderful book!

Diane - I've been using the library more than ever this year, but this is a reminder why I love owning books...no due dates!!

Nan - Thats my problem, too! I love reading everyone's blogs, but then have no time left for actual books - lol!

Carolsnotebook - This is one instance where I'll gladly pay the fine if I have to. It's such a good book...but I'm still hoping to finish on time.

  12. They could probably build a room (or small alcove) with the fines I've amassed over the years. Sometimes you just HAVE to read the book--and sometimes you have to return them unread. That hurts. Carry on!

  13. I hope you enjoy the rest of the book, and I look forward to your final thoughts :)

  14. Staci - Technically it's not overdue if it's there when they open Saturday morning,so I've really got two more evenings. I can do that!

ds - That's just the nature of using the library, I guess...sigh...

Nymeth - It just keeps getting better and better!
