Greetings from the icebox!
The scene// 9 AM, my favorite chair, sipping hot coffee, Zelda napping at my feet, the thermometer outside the window showing 3 degrees.
Reading// I finished The Gravity of Birds by Tracy Guzeman last night and loved it! Today's question is what to read next. Four books are waiting to be picked up at the library (including The Boys in the Boat, our next book club selection), so I hate to start something new from my shelf today. Maybe I'll read The New York Times a little more thoroughly and spend some time writing reviews… or perhaps a short story or two.
Listening// One more CD left in The Signature of All Things and I don't want it to end.
Watching// Syracuse basketball… They barely slipped past Miami yesterday afternoon. Although these guys are still undefeated, the games are killing me. I'm really looking forward to tonight's episode of Downton Abbey - only twelve hours to go!
In the kitchen// I'm making lasagna this afternoon - perfect comfort food for a cold day. My parents and brother are coming to dinner.
Blogging// It's back to business this week for sure! Twin A returned to college yesterday and we're settling back into our 'normal' routine. It's time to catch up on reviews.
Grateful for// Smart wool socks from Daughter #1. I want to keep them on my feet forever!

We are bracing for another "Alberta Clipper" (my new favorite term), but at least it will move through fairly quickly. Stay warm! it does sound like a perfect day to stay inside with books & coffee (tea in my case, and a cat on the lap).

DeleteYour snow sure is beautiful! We warmed up to the 40s overnight (bizarre, right?) and are slowly on our way back below zero today, so we have the frigid cold and vicious winds, but virtually no snow left on the ground. Alas, more will surely come soon. Stay warm!

DeleteI loved The Boys In The Boat so much I emailed the author and even received a reply. It's a very inspiring book to me, just the kind of determination and courage I love the most in life. Your day sounds delightful, and similar to mine, only I made chicken soup and the chicken pot pie with the stewed chicken and broth. Blessings in your week, JoAnn!

Amy - I ended up reading newspapers yesterday, but braved the weather to pick up library books this afternoon (it was another snow day!) Now my decision is which book to start first. Loved the prologue to Boys in the Boat, but We Are Water is calling, too. We'll see...

Hi Greg - I think Boys in the Boat will be an excellent read. I've heard the audio version is excellent, too. Schools were closed here on Monday and delayed today due to wind chill/cold - this is getting ridiculous! The lake is very beautiful in the summer and the fall colors are amazing. I change my header photo seasonally, so stay tuned :)

DeleteThe Signature of All Things really took me by surprise. I never expected to like it as much as I did. It almost seems Dickensian in scope... so good!
