Reading // After almost no reading time last week, I started The Ivy Tree for Anbolyn's Mary Stewart Reading Week. A large inheritance, an impersonation, and a dark, handsome hero should make for an interesting story. I'm still reading The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton, too, and loving the Old New York setting. Edith had such a keen sense of society and style. Despite my slow progress, I'm really enjoying this book!
Listening // I'm on the eighth (of twelve) CD of JFK's Last Hundred Days: The Transformation of a Man and the Emergence of a Great President by Thurston Clarke and inventing reasons to spend time in the car.
Making// The house look like fall... seasonal decorations are on my baker's rack and a sweet cinnamon pumpkin candle is burning in the kitchen. Now if I could only get motivated for some serious fall house cleaning.
Blogging // Unfortunately, not much happened on the blog last week, but I'm working on a post with three or four mini-reviews.
Enjoying// Time spent with my parents. They moved in for a week while their hardwood floors were refinished. I hated to see them leave on Friday.
Celebrating// Twin B finally got her driver's license!
Anticipating // My book club meeting on Tuesday evening. I'm hosting a wine and dessert discussion of Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver.
Traveling// We're off to swap cars with Twin A today. She can't wait to get the Jeep back (Twin B used it for her road test) because driving a minivan around campus is just embarrassing! Zelda is coming along for the ride and Daughter #1 will take a short train ride up from NYC to join us for the afternoon, too... a quick family reunion!

ReplyDeleteEarly September was a little crazy for me, and I'm almost panicking that it's mid-September and I'm not into my fall groove yet. I just hate to miss any of it. Will get myself together this week (said promisingly to myself...)
Audrey - My kindle tells me I'm 42% done, but I keep turning to my hardcover copy just to make sure ;-) It's been very cold here, especially at night, so I am in full fall mode now!
DeleteFall is always crazy at our house, but I do love it when it gets cooler (maybe in the 80's by November? Haha). Your impromptu family reunion sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteSandy - We had an absolutely perfect day yesterday! I know it will get cooler for you eventually. Did I tell you have a place in Florida now? We've taken over my FIL's condo in Sanibel. The repainting starts in a few weeks, but kitchen/bath updates will wait for another year or two. Hopefully, we'll get to spend more than 2 weeks there this winter.
DeleteI do not decorate much for fall, but I have several new Yankee candle scents that I am enjoying (I think November Rain is my favorite so far)

Molly - I'll have to check out that November Rain scent, especially since it's the paint color of my bedroom! Fall is my favorite season and I enjoy decorating almost more than I do for Christmas... less stress for this season. We had a wonderful day yesterday, and I think I'll finish off that Hook & Ladder chardonnay tonight :)

ReplyDeleteKathy - Initially it was hard to follow, but I got into the rhythm quickly. Such an interesting book, and easy to fall into the 'what if' line of thinking.
DeleteSounds like a nice weekend JoAnn. Spent a few hours today having lunch with daughter and granddaughter and some brief fall shopping [ a 17 mth old who prefers to walk in circles and hide in cubbyholes in the stores gets old fast -- even though she is very cute] LOL

Diano - I'm sure not much shopping happens with a 17 month old! We had a wonderful day in Rhinebeck yesterday... lunch, farmers market, ice cream, and hanging out with the family :)

ReplyDeleteI've been a little bit jealous of those around the country who have been experiencing little bits of fall. We are still in the 90s during the day and will be for most of the rest of the month. Maybe I should just drag out those orange decoration bins anyway and pretend. ;)

Trish - It was so nice being together yesterday.. wish it could happen more often. Twin B was afraid to drive for several years, but finally felt like she was ready. It's quite an accomplishment for her. Sorry you're still so hot in Texas. We're looking at a frost tonight.

DeleteMary Stewart was one of my mom's fav writers and so, of course, she quickly became one of mine. When my mom passed away, it was a Mary Stewart I chose from her library. Just seeing the name Mary Stewart reminds me of my mom.

DeleteI haven't pulled any fall decorations out yet as it's been so freakin' hot! But, I did go to the craft store to peruse the aisles for some new stuff. I didn't buy anything though. Just walking from the car to the store killed it for me. It was almost 100 degrees and blah.
