What's On Your Desk Wednesday

I've been tagged....
Two weeks ago, Lisa from Books Lists Life tagged me in the What's On Your Desk Wednesday meme. Here are the rules:

What's on your desk Wednesday? is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Sassy Brit of Alternative-Read.com. Check her blog out each Wednesday for the post titled What's on your desk Wednesday?

You can do one of two things or both!

Grab a camera and take a photo of your desk! Or anywhere you stack your books/TBR pile. And no tidying!
Add this photo to your blog.
Tag at least 5 people!
Come back here and leave a link back to your photo in comments.

OR

List at least 5 BOOKISH things on your desk (I'm thinking your TBR pile or books you haven't shelved...)
List at least 5 NON BOOK things. (I'm thinking some of some of the more unusual items on your desk/table?)
Tag at least 5 people to do the same.
Come back here and leave your link, so we can come and visit your blog. Or add your answers in the comments if you don't have a blog.

Since I blog from the chair in my favorite corner, that's what is shown in the photo. I love this spot! There are windows on each side that let in plenty of sunshine, I can see what's going on both inside and outside, and the chair is very comfy, too!

The bookish items include:
1. my current read on the table
2. a couple of library books on the windowsill
3. The Virago Book of Ghost Stories, also on the windowsill (can you can see the lovely bookmark sent by Book Psmith peeking out of the top?)
4. moleskin notebook under current read
5. the latest New Yorker magazine

Non-book items:
1. my coffee mug...it's almost empty!
2. the "Queen" pillow... a Christmas gift from my husband
3. pens
4. reading glassed tucked into a cute Vera Bradley case (I've reached that age!)
5. small post-it note flags

I'm not going to tag people, but would love to see where my favorite blogs originate. Please let me know if you decide to play along!

  1. I'm lusting after your Queen pillow! I have one that says 'It's good to be Queen'. You have a lovely corner to work from there JoAnn.

  2. Yes, I love the queen pillow as well!

I am curious if you have a system for how you use the moleskin when reading? I am still trying to find a system that works for me and am always curious what other avid readers use.

I am envious of that cozy corner with windows on both sides.

  3. I really like this idea! I may play along! Looking at my calendar, I have an open spot (that sounds bad! but yes, I do schedule them out a ways!) on November 14th. I try to do memes and awards on Saturdays. I need to make sure I capture the photo when my kitty is hovering over me! I'll just warn you...its messy!

  4. I can see why this is your favorite corner...it looks cozily perfect for reading and blogging. You have everything you could need or want...nourishment (isn't coffee one of the food groups), a view, a comfy chair and books. Pretty close to my idea of heaven:)

  5. Well, of course you're going to sit by the window, with that lakeside view!

Hey, someone mentioned a "It's Good to be Queen" pillow. I have a couple of those! I'm a big Engelbreit fan.

I did the "what's on your desk" thing a few weeks ago, and mine was very MESSY.

    It is today, too.

  6. If I wasn't trying to get off this darn computer to pack for a trip today, I would play along -- maybe next week. :) What a nice cozy spot.

Since I'm a Queen Bee (just look at my license plate) I need to get a pillow like that.

  7. Hi! Just found this post! Thanks for playing along. Hope it's all right to add your pic to the WOYDW Flickr set. This will show up in the photos at random on my blog, and I'll credit you, with your link, too.

Love the sound of The Virago Book of Ghost Stories - right up my street that! I'm a fan of your Queen pillow too, very nice!

    Sassy

  8. Looks like a very comfy chair. You have lots of light too.

  9. What a great spot! I love your windows. I'm also interested in learning how you use your moleskine.

  10. Darlene - I love my Queen pillow! It's quite a conversation piece, too.

Molly - The moleskin notebook is a new experiment. I've been using the little flag post-it notes for specific quotes, but keep the moleskin to jot down thoughts, ideas for future posts, etc. (probably a lot of the things you would just write in the book) So far, it's working pretty well, but I'm always open to new ideas!

Sandy - I'd love to see what's on your desk! It took me two weeks to get to it, too...but I'm impressed that you have plans until November 14!

Book Psmith - Coffee is most definitely a food group. (When are the gingerbread lattes coming out at Starbucks?) I would love to spend an entire day in 'my corner'.

  11. I hope I am remembering this right because I just asked last week when the Christmas cups were coming out and the barista said on November 3rd along with the other holiday drinks...so around the 3rd...yea!

  12. Looks as though you have the perfect spot--and the perfect pillow ;) Post it notes are a good idea, will have to investigate. Thanks!

  13. Creations by Laurel-Rain Snow - I love Mary Engelbreit, too! My daughter has one of her calendars and gave me the "it's good to be Queen" page.

Kim - Wait until you get back home, but I'd love to see what's on your desk! Does your license plate really say Queen Bee? I love it!!

Sassy Brit - This is a fun meme...glad to play along! You should check out the Virago Book of Ghost stories. I've had a lot of fun with it this month!

Reviewsbylola - The sun doesn't shine much here from November until April, so I need all the light I can get!

Lisa - The windows are the best! Like I told Molly, the moleskins are a new development, but so far they are working out. I'm not one to write in books, so I try to collect my thought in them while I am reading.

  14. I blog from my chair, too. Your corner looks better than my wall, though. :-D

  15. I love the idea of windows on both sides, and I love the chair. Believe it or not, I don't have any piles of books. They are all on the shelves. (Nancy Monk!) And I don't have a laptop. I sit at a lovely computer desk with my aunt's quilt on the wall in front of me. I read in many chairs in the living room and kitchen.

  16. Very cozy. I love sneaking peaks into other reading worlds.

  18. I love your reading space; looks very comfy. I need windows and light too. I'll have to take a photo of my space too some time. Thanks Joanne

  19. Hey JoAnn, you gave me the idea to put my computer desk as my blog banner. :<)

  20. DS - I love that "Queen" pillow, and would be lost without my post-it notes.

Book Psmith - I'll make it a point to be at a Starbucks on the 3rd!

Softdrink - LOL...I do love the view from my chair ;-)

Nan - You are so organized keeping your books on the shelves! I love the idea of looking at a treasured quilt from your desk. I'll be right over to check out your new banner.

Stacybuckeye - I love looking at oher people's homes, too! Why don't you play along next week?

Diane - I'll be looking forward to seeing your space!

  21. You have a wonderful working and reading spot! Mine isn't so bright, not to mention organized, but I can read just about everywhere as long as the book is good.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It looks so cozy! My reading place at home is also by the window, where I'm usually staring outside looking at the sparrows and pigeons creating havoc.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ivana - I agree...a good book is the most important thing here!

Hazra - Being by the window is perfect, isn't it? I end up looking out way too much, too...

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm liking your spot a lot!! The window is what attracts me the most...I can see myself sitting there and enjoying the view!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Staci - The windows are great - lots of light plus the view! Wish I could sit here all day...

    ReplyDelete
  26. JoAnn, I like your space too! I think windows are maybe the most important element--there's just something about letting the "sun shine in" that really makes a space comfortable. I think I could get as much napping done in that chair of yours as reading! ;-)

By the bye, I use a 'writer's notebook' too. Typically, I copy quotations in it from books I'm reading, and take notes to help me craft my reviews later as well. It seems to work pretty well for me.

Thanks for sharing this posting with me! Cheers! Chris

  27. Chris - Oh, yes... windows are definitely key for me, especially with the dark, gloomy late falls and winters we have in central NY. The notebook does work well. I've also started putting a couple larger post-its on the inside cover in case the notebook isn't handy. Not sure that's really helping because now my notes are more scattered.
