Good morning, friends. It's 9AM and I'm sipping coffee, watching the rain fall, and contemplating the day. It sure feels a lot more like fall than the first weekend of summer. This current storm is technically a nor'easter, so I'm thankful it's not November... otherwise we'd be buried in snow today.
I was consumed by #FerranteFever for most of the week. Last night I finished Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay and it was every bit as good as the first two. Unfortunately, it ended with a cliffhanger and the final book, The Story of the Lost Child, will not be released until September. It will be torture to wait two more months... wish I could get my hands on an ARC!!

Framley Parsonage by Anthony Trollope
Our #6Barsets Project continues in July. I've downloaded the ebook to my kindle and the audiobook, narrated by Simon Vance, to my phone. I'm ready to return to Barsetshire!

Later today//
A rainy Sunday provides the perfect excuse to go to the movies... it looks like I'll finally get to see Far From the Madding Crowd this afternoon! Maybe that will inspire me to write about my recent reading experience.
Did you watch Poldark on Masterpiece last weekend? Not sure whether I liked the story or the scenery better, but I'll definitely be tuning in again tonight.
Looking forward to//
A long holiday weekend. Our small town goes all out for the 4th of July - fireworks, parade, road race, concerts, sidewalk sale, arts and craft festival. Best of all, our daughters will be home for four days.
How was your week? What are you reading today?
We're having the same storm, and I'm looking forward to the same book!
ReplyDeleteAudrey - I'm so happy it's time for more Trollope!
DeleteWe had a quick shower yesterday but we desperately need more rain. At least we're getting a break from the intense heat for a few days.
ReplyDeleteKathy - I'm starting to wonder if maybe May was our summer :(
DeleteWhat Kathy said. We just got some good rain yesterday and it's slightly windy today. But we need more. The temperature is in the 80s and 90s this whole week.
ReplyDeleteAthira - Sure wish we could send this rain to places suffering with drought.
DeleteYour Ferrante books look so tempting...enjoy! And have a wonderful holiday weekend. Thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteLaurel-Rain Snow - I just know you will love Ferrante!
DeleteI've been hearing good things about Poldark and I'm really curious about the Far From the Madding Crowd movie. How great that your daughters will be home for 4 days. That will give you lots of catch up time. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteKatherine - I just loved Far From the Madding Crowd, but my husband had a hard time staying awake!
DeleteI am really looking forward to reading your thoughts on Framley Parsonage.
ReplyDeleteI can see how a cliffhanger book, with no sequel available yet can be very frustrating.
That Salmon looks great! By coincidence I am also eating Salmon tonight. The Pork sounds good too.
Brian Joseph - I cannot wait to begin Framley Parsonage! I'll be both reading and listening... that way I can take Trollope in the car and on my walk :)
DeleteYou are really tempting me to try the Ferrante books. But I already have my copy of Framley Parsonage ready for Wednesday :) Happy Sunday, enjoy your book & the film. I haven't been to the movies in ages, but I'm tempted by Inside Out.
ReplyDeleteLisa - Maybe it would be best to wait until all four books are released before beginning Ferrante. The first book is a little slow in places, but wonderfully written and provides important character background.
DeleteWe're finally warming up after a mild start to summer (and a rainy first part). Hope you enjoy the movie- and the 4th. I'm looking forward to the long weekend too!
ReplyDeleteGreg - I'm starting to wonder if May was actually our summer... sure hope not!
DeleteI missed Poldark, darn. Hopefully it will be released on Netflix.
ReplyDeletePatience_Crabstick - I missed Poldark last night, too, but the first episode is available onPBS's website and the second should be there soon.
DeleteUgh our weather yesterday was horrid ~ rainy, windy, cold! I am glad today is warm and sunny!
ReplyDeleteThat salmon looks amazing!
Erin - I'm hoping it will clear up today... it has been a gloomy few days. The salmon was excellent. I think the wild caught variety made a difference, too.
DeleteSorry 'bout your rainy weather. Here, today, high mid-80's, low humidity, sunny, blue skies, nice breeze, and my daughter and I had pizza tonight at an outdoor cafe. Dee-liteful!
ReplyDeleteAmong others, continuing my read of old book from 1926 called A Wanderer in Paris by E.V. Lucas. Wandering in Paris is always a good idea and reading this book I can follow him along every step of the way. This book came out around 1906 or -07, but my copy is a later printing which included some updating subsequent to WWI. Lovely old book. He also wrote "Wanderer" books about London and Florence, which I may try later.
Like you, I will be eagerly awaiting Vol 4 of the Neopolitan Quartet.
Hope you have a non-rainy start for the new week. :-)
JudyMac - I like the sound of those "Wanderer" books... they would surely feed my armchair traveling soul! It's a good thing I will be diverted by Trollope for a little while. I don't want to wish the summer away, but that may make September 1 come sooner.
DeleteIt is frustrating to wait for the next book! We have rain headed our way again. It is supposed to be warm and sunny for the fourth. I've recorded Poldark, but have yet to watch. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteNise' - That's probably one of the reasons I don't read many series, LOL! I missed Poldark last night and forgot to record it, but hope to watch it on the PBS website later in the week.
DeleteI'm keeping my fingers crossed that you'll be able to get your hands on the latest Ferrante before September. Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteVasilly - Me, too! The waiting is torture ;-)
DeleteBoy that rain this weekend was horrible, wish we could send some to CA. Your salmon and veggies dish looks awesome.
ReplyDeleteDiane - It's still raining here this morning, but they're saying it will clear later on... fingers crossed. The salmon was delicious!
DeleteWe've recorded Poldark, so won't start watching until tonight. The rain! OMG -- first too cold to go outside, now too wet. Give me the old days, please! I liked the weather we used to have. :-(
ReplyDeleteBath F - This is crazy... it's both cold and wet again today. No time on the patio again, I'm afraid. I didn't watch Poldark last night and forgot to record it. Hope PBS puts it on their website soon.
DeleteHave loved the food pics lately! And I didn't realize the Ferrante went beyond the 3 books. Seriously disappointed but now, maybe I will wait and read the 4 books (right?) this fall.
ReplyDeleteCare - I though it was three books, too... disappointed I have to wait for book 4. That one will definitely be the end.
DeleteI can't even believe the 4th is this weekend. We have no plans. I hope that no one shoots off fireworks here as it is bone dry and will cause major trouble if they do. The Teen said something about us having a BBQ and inviting his girlfriend over but as usually, he has not confirmed this ;)
ReplyDeleteTi - Maybe you'll get to enjoy a long, quiet weekend at home... which actually sounds pretty good to me! Hope the Teen give you at least a little prior warning if you'll be hosting a BBQ ;-)
DeleteI think I need to get on the #FerranteFever train! Those books look good. And so does that salmon!
ReplyDeleteBelle Wong - The first book isn't a favorite, but the second two are great!
DeleteIt's funny to think that summer has technically just begun! Elle has been asking me about it for weeks, so for us it's been summer since May. :) Glad you're not covered in snow, though!!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh, so the Ferrante books will be a quadrilogy (is there even a word for that?) rather than a trilogy. All your talk about them has certainly piqued my interest!!
Trish - I am usually SO BAD with series and thought this was a trilogy before beginning. Since I read the second and third book back to back, they almost seemed like one. Maybe I'll still think of it that way. The first book is nowhere near as good as the next two.
DeleteGreat lake photo and meal. You'll have to score an ARC on the Ferrante book, otherwise you might go crazy waiting. July is busy here with summer activities. Love the sunny days.
ReplyDeleteThecuecard - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an ARC, but it's not like I don't have anything else to read ;-)
