It's Monday and I'm in New York City! We're heading home in a few minutes, so this will be a quick update. It's been a whirlwind weekend of good food, great art, and beautiful outdoor spaces. We'll make one more stop at The Cloisters on our way north..

On the homefront//
Angus, our visiting greyhound, left Wednesday night after a ten-day stay. The house seems very quiet now... and I think Zelda is lonely.
We picked up an early Father's Day present for my husband - a tandem kayak!
An impromptu trip to Manhattan seemed like a good idea. We decided to drive down Friday evening, but both girls were out of town until Sunday. We had a good time anyway, and enjoyed a family evening on Sunday.

Will be a short one... A couple of doctor's appointments for Twin B and lots of book sorting in preparation for our annual Friends of the Library book sale coming up in July. And of course we'll be using that kayak!

What a fun way to spend the weekend! I love pop up trips! We have decided that we need to get to NYC more than we do...we are going in a few weeks but we are barely an hour train ride away...we want to try just popping in for a quick overnighter...not sure what this week entails...yet...deciding later today!
ReplyDeletePatty - We love visiting NYC, especially since our oldest daughter has lived there. One of twins got an internship at L'Oreal this summer, so she's in New York, too. We'll take any excuse to visit:)

DeleteI've only been kayaking once --- on a birding weekend --- to look at water birds and their nests. I was very nervous, but ended up loving it! I would love to go again. Maybe I should pick one up for the Handyman.

ReplyDeleteDarlene - Our weekend in NYC was so much fun, but exhausting! The kayak was scary the first time I tried it, but have come to love it now...just takes a little getting used to. The dogs were practically purring in that photo. It was hilarious!
DeleteJust finished "What Alice Forgot" by Liane Moriarty. After reading "The Husband's Secret," I decided I wanted more Moriarty and happened on a PB copy at a consignment shop. Like her books a lot. Now into "The Love Object --Selected Stories of (the Irish writer) Edna O'Brien." A wonderful way with words. Glad Angus' visit worked out so well. I think animals do appreciate having companionship with their own kind. Certainly could use a trip to the Big Apple. Won't happen this year, however, as I have plans for some upgrades around the house.
ReplyDeleteJudyMac - I really liked Moriarty's Big Little Lies last year and have been meaning to read The Husband's Secret ever since. Edna O'Brien's writing is very beautiful, she's always a pleasure to read. It helps that out daughter is in NYC... we always have a place to stay :)

DeleteI am getting back to A Little Life. I took a break to read Misery for the read along and now I am itching to add a summer read to my pile before my Atlas Shrugged read along begins next month.

Brian Joseph - Ferrante has many stand-alone novels in addition to this series, including The Lost Daughter which I purchased after reading a very favorable review. I have finally reached the point in The Story of a New Name (around 55%) where I want to stop everything and just keep reading!
