Weekly Update: Super Bowl Sunday Edition

Happy Super Bowl Sunday, an unofficial national holiday. Do you have plans to watch the big game? Or just the commercials? Is food the main draw? Personally, I can't wait for the Buffalo Chicken Wing Dip...a once-a-year treat for me. Can the Super Bowl possibly be as exciting as the Seattle/Green Bay play-off game a couple weeks ago? Are you as sick of deflate-gate as I am? And the really  big question... what about the Downton Abbey conflict??? I will certainly abandon the game come Downton time.

Current reading//

The Warden by Anthony Trollope
Is this even the same book I read 15 years ago? I'm enjoying it so much more this time around and am already looking forward to Barchester Towers. I'll finish today... not sure what I'll pick up next.

Audrey's tempting tidbits from this Trollope biography by Victoria Glendinning prompted me to pick up a copy for myself last week. It will be a long-term companion read to my Barsetshire project.

On the blog//
Tuesday Intro: Reading Barsetshire
Review: Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng
Not Exactly Euphoric - my review of Euphoria by Lily King

Later today//
- a walk on the beach
- a trip to the farmers market
- The Super Bowl, but only until Downton time

Happy February, friends!

This post will link to It's Monday, What are you Reading? hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

    1. Jill - There were some good ones! I was partial to the JFK cruise and my husband got a kick out of the viagra/fiat commercial.

  2. I'm so glad you're joining me in Barsetshire (and that The Warden has improved! :)} I've been amusing myself this morning thinking about eating nachos and chicken wings during Downton Abbey {even though I won't, I promise.} Your day sounds so nice...

    1. Audrey - I finished The Warden and was very tempted to download and start Barchester Towers immediately... my kindle even suggested it when I reached the 100% mark!

  3. We're going to a Super Bowl party and I'm all about the socializing. Our friends have one room for the people who are serious about the game and I stay out of it!

  5. I had forgotten about last year's Super Bowl. So boring!! We stay home though the kids tend to go to various parties. But I'm making a yummy sounding loaded potato dip and intend to read with one eye and watch the game with the other. Have a lovely week! Enjoy your time with Trollope!

  6. As usual, lots of hype around Super Bowl. I'll watch the commercials and half-time show, but nothing comes between me and Downton Abbey.

    Have a great (snow-free) week!

    1. Catherine - I switched back to the game immediately after Downton in time to see that dramatic ending!

I loved Everything I Never Told You, too.

Enjoy your new week...and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

  9. We won't be watching the game - well, I won't. Hubby says he won't either, but we'll see. Your dip sounds good. The pictures are lovely. And Downton - this is a year filled with uncomfortable situations of all kinds isn't it? Interested to see where things go in lots of areas. :-)

Wait until you meet Josiah Crawley - no, not at Downton, but in Barsetshire!

  11. I won't be watching either. I was thinking of heading out to shop for a much-needed new couch, because the stores might be empty then - but I think the sales staff might also be distracted. A Sunday with Anthony Trollope sounds lovely :)

    1. Lisa - I finished The Warden and am hoping we have not seen the end of Mr. Harding! Did you end up shopping for the couch?

  13. My husband came in yesterday with Chicago mix popcorn (half caramel/half cheddar) and I asked, "Is that for the Super Bowl?" He said, "Yes, Downton Abbey," and we laughed. It's got to be better than the game without any Bears...or, Packers. ;)

Thanks for happy birthday wishes, too. xo

  15. Watching the game while catching up on my blog-hopping. Pretty exciting right now with just 2 minutes remaining. I'm rooting for the Hawks since I have a deep love for the PNW.

Glad you're enjoying your time at the beach. I'm counting the days until spring now that we've had our big snowstorm. Another frigid night, so we're dripping our faucets.

  17. I took the opportunity to go to Target during the game and it was awesome! The store was nearly empty. I think since the game was in Glendale (about 20 miles from my town) I was sick of hearing about it. It's all the local news talked about this week. I'm glad the Patriots won, though.

  18. Wow, what is that on the beach? A starfish?

I live in Australia but one of the guys who works for my company works remotely from the US and he was having the day off for the Superbowl!

    1. Deborah - Yes, I took that starfish picture this week. There were more starfish than I have ever seen last Sunday/Monday... amazing!

  20. Watched the game. Watched Downton Abbey after -tape delayed. The colors of the dresses are marvelous are they not?

As much as I didn't want to watch, the game, i did. Not a fan of either team, especially after the stunned loss the Packers endured two week ago. I digress.
But, yes, Go Pack - next year.

    1. Midlife Roadtripper - I still can't get over the Packers loss in the playoffs! We have no DVR here in FL, but I watched Downton Abbey and switched back just in time for the last couple of minutes. Stunning.

I'm not sure how many more episodes of Downton we have left, but I will hate to see it end.
