Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week we're talking about our fall TBR (to be read) lists. Like many readers, I am a list-maker, but not always good about sticking to them. Books are selected according to my mood, so something that appeals today may not seem at all interesting next week.
With that in mind, here is today's Fall TBR List:
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson (in progress)
For The Estella Society/ R.I.P. readalong - it's very good so far.
A Murder is Announced by Agatha Christie (in progress)
Also for R.I.P., but I'm only reading a few pages per day. Think I need to speed things up!
Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote (audio, in progress)
A short book - the perfect contrast to all the long books I've been reading lately.
Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
This ebook from the library is still on my kindle (thanks to airplane mode) and I'm planning to read it on the train this weekend.
My Cousin Rachel by Daphne DuMaurier
I've been wanting to read more DuMaurier for years. It's time to move beyond Rebecca.
Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury
Winter of the World by Ken Follett
Another long book and the second installment of the Century Trilogy.
The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe
This book got a lot of buzz when it was released and I've finally borrowed it from the library.
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
What is it with long books this year? I have it on my kindle, but may make it a read/listen combination.
Lady Audley's Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon
This classic is on my kindle. Maybe I'll have time for one more R.I.P. read.

DeleteYou've got 2 chunksters on there!! I'm about to start Edge of Eternity...the 3rd Follett book. Loved Goldfinch. And just finished Big Little Lies...I'll be interested to see what you think of it - I'm in the minority camp :)
ReplyDeleteSarah - I haven't read Liane Moriarty and my expectations are pretty high, so we'll see what happens with Big Little Lies. I love chunksters, but they're hard if you want to keep reviews flowing on the blog ;-)

DeleteGreat list! I finished Haunting of Hill House last night for my Thursday review and can't wait to see what you think of it! I hope you enjoy Murder is Announced. Breakfast at Tiffany's is on my Classics List and I'm really looking forward to reading more du Maurier. I hope you get all these read because I want to see what you think of them!
ReplyDeleteKatherine - I'll probably finish Hill House tonight. A Murder is Announced is such a good book, but I hate reading just a few pages each day. I think I'll need to immerse myself in Christie's stories in the future.

DeleteGreat list! I'm reading Hill House right now, very creepy. I love Ray Bradbury and Agatha Christie. I had mixed feelings about The Goldfinch but it's definitely worth a read.

DeleteBig Little Lies is awesome...it is a fast read! I really enjoyed My Cousin Rachel back a few years ago when I read it. It is methodical and very subtly creepy. And I'm so glad you are participating in our readalong! I've got the audio, and I'm fixing to start it soon!
ReplyDeleteSandy - I think Big Little Lies will be perfect for my train trip to/from NYC. Haven't read Bradbury since high school, so I'm not quite sure what to expect from the readalong. No doubt it will be fun though!
DeleteThat thing you said about finding it hard to stick to a reading list...ummm, yeah. Every time I turn around, something else, usually because of another blogger, catches my fancy and the list goes completely untouched. For example, you just made me want to go snatch Lady Audley's Secret off the shelf. And I think I shall. So the poor little list remains abandoned. Or should I just call it "revised." :)

DeleteLists are fun to make and fun to break! I've also been reading novellas between the longer reads and find it works really well. Loved Big Little Lies and Lady Audley is great fun.

ReplyDeleteNise' - I seem to be reading a lot of really long books this year. Loved them when I was younger, but it's harder now with the blog because I'm not a very fast reader.
DeleteI am thoroughly enjoying the audio version of The Goldfinch! I was so bummed when my Nano died today at work. Have to remember to charge it tonight so I can continue listening tomorrow morning.
ReplyDeleteI'm putting together my fall reading list and hope to get it posted in the next few days. Now that summer is officially over, I suppose I should do a recap of my summer reading. I have to say, I did pretty well sticking to my list!
I'll be anxious to hear how you like The End of Your Life Book Club. I bought a copy for a second reading sometime in the future. The audio was quite good.
Les - When I'm ready to start The Goldfinch, it will have to be my only book... both audio and kindle. Today I downloaded The End of Your Life Book Club on audio and listened to almost an hour - very good so far! I have the hardcover from the library for quotes :-)

ReplyDeleteI was listening to Big Little Lies on audio, just as a light thing to have on in the car . . . and I stopped in the middle, somehow, weeks ago. Now I feel like I can barely remember the characters or the plot, and it seems like maybe too much effort to get back into. Strange--I don't usually accidentally abandon a book!
Leila - I've got 30 pages left in Hill House and hope to finish this evening. It seems like reviews of Big Little Lies are varying wildly... 5 hours on a train Friday, so we'll see if I stick to it or start something else on on my kindle.

DeleteLots of the books on your list are on my radar! I've been wanting to read Rebecca by Daphne duMaurier for-ev-er! Same goes for Agatha Christie -- I somehow have never read one of her books. I totally know what you mean about making one of these seasonal TBR lists and then not sticking to it. I actually did remarkably well with my summer list -- I actually read almost all the books! I felt so accomplished!
ReplyDeleteLindsay - I really liked Rebecca,but it's taking me forever to read something else by DuMaurier. The only other Christie I've read is And The There Were None, but it was great! Congrats on your summer list success... I'll have to check and see how I did, too!
