Weekly Update: A Long Holiday Weekend

Disappearing for much of the week wasn't my plan, it just happened. Our oldest daughter is home and we've had a wonderful holiday weekend - life has been a happy blur since Wednesday. My nephew's graduation party is this afternoon, so the fun isn't over yet.

What about reading? As you might expect, there hasn't been much at all. I'm reading the same books as last week. Now that I have the characters and story lines straight, The Ship of Brides by Jojo Moyes is a very enjoyable novel. I look forward to relaxing by the lake with this one later today and should finish before the end of the week.

My book club's annual pot luck dinner is coming up soon. Each of us will read a different foodie memoir and prepare a dish featured in our selection. My choice is The Sweet Life in Paris by David Lebovitz (which also fits in nicely with #ParisInJuly). The first few chapters have given me a taste of its tone... I'm hungry for more. This is a mostly social gathering so I don't expect much serious discussion, but know a few more titles will be added to my wish list.

Listening time has also been at a premium this week, but I've managed to listen to about a third of The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd and am loving it. My morning walks will resume tomorrow, so there's a chance I'll be able to finish this week.

Up next? We'll have to wait and see...

I've missed a couple #100HappyDays this week, but will still share a couple of favorites.

Now we're off to the train station....my daughter is heading back to NYC. I'll catch up with your blogs later tonight and tomorrow. Happy Sunday!

  2. Looks like you had a fantastic week! I've been wanting to read The Sweet Life in Paris since I read Lebovitz's cookbook. Would you believe I've never read any of Moyes' books? I need to fix that!

  3. I am looking forward to reading Moyes backlist now publishing here in the US. I read Invention of Wings, really loved it, though I admit it had a few slow points.
My reading has been off by husband being home, but we're re-doing my desk nook. We don't have an office so what would be a breakfast nook has always been a desk computer set up. It's old, and not enjoyable, I've been planning an update for years, finally have a plan and we bought a desk this weekend, ordered a chair and I'm planning wall organization and art. I'm excited, he seems less so...ha ha.
    Glad you enjoyed family home!

    1. Anita - I'll be slowly working my way through Moyes' entire backlist ... just love her stories. Any slow parts in The Invention of Wings have been masked by the stellar narration in the audio production. A new office nook is so exciting!!! Why are men so unexcited by such progress?? ;-)

  8. I've heard a lot of good things about The Invention of Wings on audio - I'm hoping my library gets it in that format eventually.

What a great thing for authors when they have a book or two take off, and that brings their back titles back into print! I definitely need to read more Moyes.

    1. Rita - Exactly! This is the first time my daughter has been home in since Christmas! Although I've seen her a couple of times since then, it's still a long time for us.

The audio production of The Invention of Wings is so good... if your library has a copy, it would make an excellent read/listen combination. If the hold list wasn't so long at the library, I'd do that myself.
