It's hard to believe, but we're almost at the midpoint of 2014. Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, wants to know about our favorite books so far this year. I've read some great books over the past six months, so this was not a particularly easy task. In fact, if you look closely, there are actually eleven books listed. I foresee trouble when it's time to make those year-end lists in December...
Fiction:
by Meg Wolitzer
by Jojo Moyes
by Tracy Guzeman
by M.L. Stedman
by E. Lockhart
by Ariel Lawhon
The Signature of all Things (audio)

I love Jojo Moyes, I keep meaning to get onto some of her older books.
ReplyDeleteEllie - I'm planning to read her older novel (soon to be released in the US), Ship of Brides very soon. Love Jojo Moyes books!
DeleteOrange is the New Black was so good! The Signature of all Things and Empty Mansions are both on my TBR list!
ReplyDeleteMelissa - I highly recommend the audio for both of those titles!
DeleteI've only read 2 of those books but I have several others in my stacks. I need to get to work!
ReplyDeleteKathy - Don't know how we can possibly keep up with all the great books out there!
DeleteI knew you'd have some great suggestions for me, so I had to stop by and see!
ReplyDeleteDeb - Aww, thanks!
DeleteWe have several books in common--Boys in the Boat and Empty Mansions are both on my list--and I would have included Happy Marriage but I actually read it last year! I'm listening to We Were Liars on audiobook right now--I'm not too far in yet but so far I'm enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteBookmammalmusings - I just visited your list and have decided we have very similar taste in books :-)
DeleteI really need to try The Gravity of Birds. I received a beautiful copy for review and just haven't gotten around to it.
ReplyDeleteAndi - I'm pretty sure The Gravity of Birds will be on my list at the end of the year, too.
DeleteWhile I've only read Orange is the New Black, it's amazing how many of your top 10 list are on my to-read list. Shows I'm a faithful reader of your blog and our tastes align :)
ReplyDeleteI'm next on the list for The Signature of All Things at the library--can't wait!
JaneGS - We definitely have similar tastes! I never expected to like The Signature of All Things as much as I did... the summary really doesn't do justice to the story.
DeleteGreat list, I like the variety! Have heard good things about We Were Liars but haven't read it yet. I can't believe we are so far through the year already...
ReplyDeleteCharlottereadsclassics - We Were Liars is the perfect book for a lazy summer afternoon. You'll be able to read it all in one sitting.
DeleteLooks like you've read some great books so far this year. I haven't read ANY of them, but I've added several to my TBR list, so thanks for the head's up.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
Susan - It's amazing how many excellent books are out there... how can we readers ever expect to keep up??
DeleteGreat list. I haven't read any of them - maybe I should correct that.
ReplyDeleteCarol - Still plenty of time left until December ;-)
DeleteI can't wait to read We Were Liars. I love Ann Patchett's other books, I need to read Happy Marriage soon. Great list.
ReplyDeleteHere's my TTT:

Wendi - We Were Liars was SO good. I don't usually read a lot of YA, but if they were all like this, I would!
DeleteMy friend keeps raving about The Light Between the oceans. I need to try to read it this year. I have We were Liars in my library stack.
ReplyDeleteLinda - Be warned that The Light Between Oceans starts slowly, but you'll be rewarded if you stick with it!
DeleteI'm still waiting for We Were Liars (I think I'm next on the list) and have most of your others on my TBR. I especially look forward to reading The Interestings sometime this year. I love seeing everyone's favorites!
ReplyDeleteAnbolyn - I'm certain The Interestings will be on my list at the end of the year, too.
DeleteAh, good list... I have read a few of these. I really enjoyed Orange is the New Black, even though I don't usually read nonfiction. I would like to try Empty Mansions!
ReplyDeleteLeila - Empty Mansions was a little slow in the beginning, but what a fascinating story!
DeleteI didn't get very far with The Light Between Oceans, but maybe I didn't stick with it long enough. I have Ann Patchett's most recent novel on the TBR stacks - which will be my introduction to her. But I've heard very good things about the Happy Marriage book. I hope the rest of the year brings you just as many great reads.
ReplyDeleteLisa - The Light Between Oceans gets off to a *very* slow start - which is why it got 4.5 instead of 5 stars from me. If I hadn't been reading for book club, I might have put it aside, but I'm so glad I didn't. The writing is gorgeous and it's a very thought-provoking story.
DeleteThere's some terrific books here. I would have had The Signature of All Things on my list, too, but I finished it at the tale end of 2013.
ReplyDeleteJoy's Book Blog
Joy - I almost didn't read The Signature of All things because I disliked Eat, Pray, Love... so glad I reconsidered!
DeleteWould appear my TBR list just got longer. Thanks a lot!
ReplyDeleteLife After Life - thoroughly enjoyed.
Midlife Roadtripper - Sorry about that! ;-)
DeleteYou mean Kate Atkinson's Life After Life, right? Jill McCorkle released a book with the same title last spring, too. That one is also on my wish list.
I loved The Light Between The Oceans and The Boys in The Boat. I checked out The Interestings from the library, but gave it to my mother as I was too busy closing up the school year. She liked it very much, as you did. Maybe I'll get to it this summer?
ReplyDeleteBellezza - I saw your very ambitious stack of summer reading, but hope you have time for The Interestings, too. It's probably my favorite book so far this year!
DeleteWhat a great list! I agree w/ you on Wife, Maid, & Mistress! I also loved The Interestings (although read it last year) and Boys in the Boat (was my favorite nonfiction of last year)!
ReplyDeleteSarah - We certainly seem to have very similar reading tastes... which is why I pay close attention to your reviews :)
DeleteI keep forgetting how much I loved The Signature of All Things - I think I appreciate it more looking back on it than I even did just after reading it. I'm really looking forward to getting to The Wife The Maid and The Mistress to get ready for Booktopia Asheville soon.
ReplyDeleteShannon - My appreciation of The Signature of All Things has grown in retrospect, too... quite an impressive novel!
DeleteThanks for sharing your list. I've read three of the ones listed. There are several others I've been curious about. This will be a good reference for when it's my turn to present selection for my book club this year.
ReplyDeletePat - My list has certainly grown this week, too. SO many great books in this week's meme.
DeleteThe Signature of all Things is on my TBR, I need to just go ahead a read it!
ReplyDeleteOuachita Parish Public Library - I especially loved the audio version of The Signature of All Things. Juliet Stevenson is an amazing narrator!
DeleteAny thing I've read on this list, I would absolutely agree with! And you know I'm adding the ones I haven't to my read-soon list.
ReplyDeleteLisa - I wouldn't want you to run out of reading suggestions ;-)
DeleteOne of those (Girl I Left Behind) was a favorite last year and The Wife, the Maid and the Mistress will likely make my yearly favorite list too!
ReplyDeleteStacybuckeye - My mom and sister both loved The Wife, the Maid, and the Mistress, too!
