What a difference a day makes. The view from my window Friday morning featured gray skies and a fresh inch or two of snow. We arrived in Florida around midnight and by Saturday morning I was ready for my first walk on the beach.
The scene// 8 AM, on the lanai, drinking coffee, and listening to the birds
Reading// Middlemarch, but without much progress this past week.
Listening// Same as above ;-)
Watching// March Madness. Some of you will already know that my Syracuse Orangemen crashed, burned, and made their exit from the Big Dance last night. They also busted a lot f brackets in the process. For whatever reason, it seems this team checked out a few weeks ago. The only upside of this development is that I don’t need to but a new television for the condo today!
Wondering// If Middlemarch is really appropriate beach reading…
Hoping// This beautiful weather continues for our entire visit.
Looking forward to// A bike ride to the Farmer’s Market and some peel & eat shrimp.
Blogging// As we head into the final week of The TBR Triple Dog Dare, it looks like I’m going to make it... at least if you ignore that one special Sunday-afternoon dispensation ;-)
I'm sure how much internet access I’ll have this week, but I will catch up with all of you as soon as I can. Have a great week!
People do a lot of bitching about Florida...granted we have our share of issues. But it is perpetually gorgeous down here. Nary a snowflake in sight. Enjoy your time at the beach my friend! Get lots of reading done, and forget about those damned Orangemen.
ReplyDeleteSandy - The game is already forgotten. We went out to dinner and watched part of tonight's games... but it doesn't mean as much any more.
DeleteWe had a few days of gorgeous weather and now they're saying we might see some snow flurries the next 2 days. I am over it!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I've been rooting for Syracuse - maybe I jinxed them.
Kathy - No, I don't think you jinxed them. They've been doomed for a couple of weeks now.
DeleteI put Syracuse on my (completely uninformed and random) bracket in your honor, but don't worry - I put Duke to win in honor of my nephew so I lost my shot at that billion dollars a long time ago. :)
ReplyDeleteYou have my permission (not that you need it) to put Middlemarch on the shelf till you get back (but it is worth finishing, I promise!!)
BTW, I was hanging around on Audible and just set up my first audio-Kindle book sync. Whoa. That could be addictive! It's Northanger Abbey, in honor of its 200th in May.
Audrey - So sorry to be part of your bracket failure. I'm not quite sure what to do about Middlemarch... I listened on my walk this morning and will read some on my kindle tonight, but may choose something else for any time I spend on the beach (under my umbrella with a ton of sunscreen!)
DeleteAudrey - And I'm so glad you've discovered the joys of whisper sync...pretty amazing, huh?
DeleteEnjoy the beautiful weather, Joann! We had some warmth here yesterday but now they are predicting snow again - I need to get to warmer climes ASAP!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful, relaxing week!
Colleen - I know you had a few nice days there...my daughter even got a chance to ride her bike outside! Any warm weather travel plans in your future?
DeleteOur part of Texas has been a disappointment to a lot of spring breakers - I hope the weather continues gorgeous in your part of Florida! I can't remember, did you pack any books (real or virtual), besides Middlemarch?
ReplyDeleteLisa - I brought along our next book club selection, The Light Between Oceans, and the entire virtual library on my kindle ;-)
DeleteOooo, your vacation sounds absolutely wonderful. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carrie!
DeleteWhat a nice view! Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Vasilly. Fingers crossed the weather holds.
DeleteJust so you know what you're missing - it's 0 here at 10.30 pm. :<))
ReplyDeleteJoAnn, I can comiserate with you about Dayton :) I admit that I've had issues with my Buckeyes all year, but it was tough to see them lose in the first round to Dayton. Now we can only hope they win the whole thing :)
ReplyDeleteWho needs Internet access when you have the beach?
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you can enjoy some sun!!! Finally, huh? I'd lose my mind with all that snow. Peel and eat shrimp. I really like peel and eat shrimp :)
ReplyDeleteSo excited that you're enjoying some beautiful weather! Soak it in!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love that view (of the ocean, not the snow, in case you were wondering!). ;)
ReplyDeleteYou said you were wondering if Middlemarch is really appropriate beach reading. Funny you should ask that. My husband and I went to St. John, USVI many years ago with another couple. The wife brought along Middlemarch and didn't want to do anything other than lie in a hammock and read. I'm all for reading, but there we were right by the most gorgeous ocean with options for kayaking, sailing or swimming, not to mention sightseeing or shopping, for Pete's sake! She finally joined us for an outing or two, but it was kind of humorous to think she flew all that way just to sit and read. I'd at least want to go for a walk or put my toes in the water. ;)
Oh you must be loving the weather in Florida after all that snow! Not sure about Middlemarch on the beach. I am reading it for my book club and really enjoying, but it might be tough to read it with the sun shining and the waves crashing! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos JoAnn. Have a great vacation!
ReplyDeleteMmmm, Happy Beaching. Happy reading. Happy relaxing. Hope the weather stays well for your relaxing.
ReplyDeleteThe view out your window is exquisite, so beautiful. But sure, sand is better than snow. Also, Middlemarch may not be a beach read, but I'm most eager to read your take on it. Awaiting your review. (It has been on my mental TBR list for many a years)
ReplyDeleteI love snow, beaches and Middlemarch. :)
ReplyDeleteHave fun in Florida - glad you got to escape the snow again! Sorry about your Orangemen; our Huskers and Bluejays didn't fare too well, either. Still fun to watch the games, though.
