New to My (Virtual) Shelf

I love reading on my kindle paperwhite. It's perfect for travel, I can use it in bright sunlight, plus I can read in bed without using the book light my husband finds so annoying. Amazon has made it easy and inexpensive to add new titles to my virtual shelf with their Kindle Daily Deals, too. The problem is that without seeing the books on my physical shelf, it's easy to forget about them.

Amanda employed a strategy last month that I thought might work for me, too. In an effort to stay accountable to myself, I'm listing my February kindle purchases here on the blog. They include:

We Are Water by Wally Lamb
I originally borrowed this from library (after being the hold list for months, so I'm still still good with the TBR Dare), but didn't want to lug the nearly 600 page hardcover on a recent plane trip. I ended up paying the regular kindle price. Read, but not yet reviewed.

The Mouse-Proof Kitchen by Saira Shah
This one has been on my wish list since Diane reviewed it last  year, but it will have to wait until after the TBR dare. The last I checked, it was still $2.99.

The American Home Front: 1941-1942 by Alistair Cooke
This daily deal just sounded interesting. I also purchased the audible edition for 99 cents!

Honeymoon in Paris: A Novella by Jojo Moyes
This has a regular price of $2.99. I read it (taking a one day break from the TBR Dare) and wrote a quick review!

The Summer without Men by Siri Hustvedt
I've wanted to read this for a while now. The price is still just $3.99

What's new on your virtual shelf?

  2. I too have started eReading and find there are pros and cons. Like you, Ive to remind myself by writing down what I have to read in which device or real shelves.

    1. Arti - I should probably start a written list to remind me what's on the kindle.

  3. This is actually a good idea. My Kindle Paperwhite (which I absolutely love as well) is like a black hole for purchases. I buy them impulsively then forget.

    1. Sandy - I'm sure that's what amazon hopes we'll do. Think I need to start a printed master kindle list...

  4. Oh yes, I have a problem remembering what is on the virtual shelf -- so I created a Google spreadsheet by pub date. I purchased the Jojo Moyes prequel after reading your review:)

    1. Diane - Hmm, a spreadsheet is a good idea, too. Hope you like Honeymoon in Paris - short and sweet!

  5. The name Siri Hustvedt sounds familiar but not for that title. Now I need to go see which I've put on my wishlist on Amazon! I've been trying to be better about impulse purchases of ebooks but it is tough! I've finally added them into my regular excel workbook with all my books and it was a shock to see them all listed and so many unread! Oops!

  6. My virtual shelves grow so quickly. While I didn't love The Summer Without Men, I'm reading Hustvedt's new book, The Blazing World, and I LOVE IT.

  7. These days the only eReading I do is eGalleys. I really prefer to read print books so I rarely buy eBooks. But I do have tons of classics that I downloaded for free - and I usually end up buying the print version anyway!

    1. Anbolyn - I generally prefer holding a physical book, too. Think I'm getting lazy with the adjustable font... books seem like such fine print these days ;-)

  8. Oh those low prices and invisible book shelves - so easy to get carried away!

  9. Oh heavens, my virtual shelf grows daily. Lol. I really like my Kindle Fire because I can leave things I want to read on the front screen otherwise I'd forget them. You could make collections of the books you buy monthly then they'd be more easy to access than all just sitting in one place.

    1. Darlene - That's a good idea. After a life of being conditioned to look at books on my shelf, it's hard to remember the virtual titles.

  10. Yes, I forget what's on my Kindle too. I've just downloaded a couple of Mapp and Lucia books by EF Benson, for free.

    1. Seagreen reader - I've finally listed all the books on my kindle in my reading journal. Now if I can only remember to keep it updated, I'll be all set ;-)

  11. I don't buy much for my Nook because I don't use it very often. When I see a sweet deal on a book I want to read I do snatch it up. And then it sits there, just like my real Mt. TBR :)

    1. Stacybuckeye - My virtual shelf seems to be the recipient of my impulse buys theses days ;-)
