... basically a Sunday Salon Post, but the weekend got away from me.
The scene// Monday morning. Drinking coffee. Still happy from a wonderful weekend in Rhinebeck with Twin A and Daughter #1.
Reading// Middlemarch. After 150 pages, I'm finally into the story.
Listening// Finished Orange is the New Black by Piper Kerman... an eye-opener. Trying to decide whether to start a new book or make Middlemarch a read/listen combo.
Watching// Basketball. The Syracuse Orangemen are killing me, but have the #2 seed for the ACC Tournament next weekend.
Thank you for all the excellent Netflix series suggestions. They will certainly provide much-needed motivation until I can walk outside again!
In the kitchen// I found a recipe for easy fish picatta on Pinterest, prepared it using fresh flounder and thought it was amazing - definitely worthy of its own weekend cooking post. I'll make it again this week and try to remember to take a picture.
Planning// Our next trip to Florida. With another winter storm on the horizon, it can't come soon enough!
Loving// Time spent with my daughters. I am truly blessed.
How was your weekend?
I'm a Hokie fan but their season is in the toilet so I've been rooting for Syracuse - maybe I'm a jinx!
ReplyDeleteKathy - No, I don't think so... the Orangemen need all they help they can get these days!
DeleteRhinebeck looks like a fun place to visit!
ReplyDeleteI love flounder, but have only had it while traveling on the east coast. The best was when we were in Morehead City, NC. Wish I could find it here in land-locked Nebraska!
Isn't it fun to have another trip to look forward to? I'm counting the days (22) until I head back to Oregon!!
Les - Rhinebeck is a fun and funky little town very close to my daughter's college... and a perfect spot for a quick get-away. Glad to hear you've got another trip to look forward to, too! 22 days pass before you know it :)
DeleteThank goodness... I missed your peaceful Sunday morning update yesterday! :) But I'm glad you had such good reasons to have let it get away from you.
ReplyDeleteAudrey - I missed my 'normal routine', but it's fun to mix it up every once in a while. Hope you had a great weekend!
DeleteI've never read Middlemarch and think I really should. Though I'm not sure if I could do two books at the time, I kind of have to emerge myself into a book and can't concentrate on another book, and I don't do audio books at all. I can't wait for our vacation which is coming up in April :) Have a great week.
ReplyDeletePeggy - I'm basically a one-book-at-a-time reader, but can manage to have one in print and one on audio. It's hard for me to juggle two books in the same format though.
DeleteBasketball schmasketball. Purdue won't even make the big dance this year, so. And yes you definitely need to come to Florida. I swear our weather has been outstanding this winter, which makes me feel a tad bit guilty after all the crap everyone else has suffered through. I'm very interested in anything picatta, especially fish since it is Lent. Please share!
ReplyDeleteSandy - I'm going to make that fish piccata again on Friday and WILL take a picture so I can post on Weekend Cooking. Hope your good weather continues through our next visit!
DeleteOh I never thought of FISH picatta. Yes, how very interesting sounding!
ReplyDeleteJill - The piccata was great with flounder, but I'm sure sole or tilapia would have worked, too.
DeleteI am going to pretend that you didn't mention another winter storm. This is why I stopped watching the weather overa month ago!
ReplyDeleteStacybuckeye - I think I'd be happier if I stopped watching the weather, too, although there is some talk now of this latest storm beginning as rain. That could bring down the total snowfall prediction... fingers crossed!
DeleteLove the sound of your weekend! And after seeing your photo on Instagram I think you need to go to Florida! What a good idea to do fish piccata. Sounds delicious! Do you have the cookbook "Plenty"? Tonight I am making vegetable paella from that book. It is cooking right now and smells so good. I was in Rhinebeck some years ago when we visited Bard College with my younger daughter. So beautiful in that part of the world.
ReplyDeleteSunday - I'm not familiar with "Plenty", but will definitely check it out. My daughter is at Bard now, so we've been spending time in Rhinebeck the last couple of years... such a fun and funky town!
DeleteLove that image and your time spent with daughters sounded special as well -- Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Diane. It was a great weekend.
DeleteI'm glad you're enjoying Middlemarch!
ReplyDeleteCarrie - It took a little patience at the beginning, but I'm enjoying it now. Love all the characters!
DeleteI can't wait to read your weekend post. I hope that feeling of happiness stays with you all week long.
ReplyDeleteVasilly - Tuesday afternoon and still feeling happy... hope tomorrow's snowstorm doesn't dampen my spirits ;-)
DeleteYour coffee cup looks yummy! Another trip to Fla.! Sounds wonderful! Have a great week.
ReplyDeletePat - They're predicting a big snowstorm for tomorrow... that's making Florida sound even more appealing!
DeleteYes, you *must* post that recipe. Sounds fab. And spring? Where is it? It was 60 yesterday but already dropping back into the 20s. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteBeth F - I'll get some fresh fish on Friday and make the piccata again... AND take a picture:-)
DeleteThe fish dish sounds good. I love fish but don't make it too often. My kids do nothing but complain about the smell when I do so when I make it, it has to be grilled outside! Which means... I don't make it often.
ReplyDeleteTi - My daughter loves fish, but always complains about the smell. I'm sure she wishes I'd grill instead!
DeleteI know what you're going to be doing this weekend! Nebraska is all atwitter with two teams going to the tournament. Let's hope all of our teams can bring their A games! I'm watching Orange Is The New Black on Netflix right now and I'm eager to read the book now.
ReplyDeleteLisa - I watched a couple episodes and it seems they made it a little sexier for television ;-)
