I love the idea of graphic nonfiction, especially biographies. They make so many subjects more accessible to children and more fun for adults. Just look at these wonderful illustrations... and who can resist Julia Child, France, and cooking? Whether you buy a copy for yourself or borrow it from the local library like I did, Bon Appétit! is simply delightful. It made me want to reread My Life in France, or pick up a copy of Dearie.
This looks adorable -- I have a niece who will be getting this for Christmas! Have you read Provence 1970, JoAnn? If not, you need to add it to your Julia Child list -- it was fantastic!

DeleteI love graphic nonfiction too -- it's so fun and beautiful. Lauren Redniss has done some amazing stuff along those lines too. She made me love Marie Curie an awful lot.

DeleteWhat a charming book! I love graphic non-fiction as well (I fell in love with Vivian Swift's work!). I know that if I read this book, all it would do though is make me need more Julia. My Life in France has to be one of my favorite books ever.
ReplyDeleteSandy - I loved Le Road Trip and have been meaning to check out her other book for a while now, but keep forgetting. There is no such thing as too much Julia. Did you listen to My Life in France? Such a great audio.
DeleteI have never read graphic non-fiction (or graphic fiction for that matter) but you have intrigued me with this review.
ReplyDeleteColleen - I didn't read any graphics before blogging, but now enjoy one or two a year. Sandy reminded me of Le Road Trip by Vivian Swift and I really liked French Milk by Lucy Knisley, too. Both are nonfiction.

DeleteI love the illustrations! Definitely want to look for this. BTW, I'd highly recommend the print or audiobook version of Laura Shapiro's short biography of Julia - I think it's just called Julia Child. Bon appetit!
