Monday... already? Where did the weekend go? We traveled to New York City on Friday (arrived just as the snow was winding down). Twin B drove in with us, Twin A arrived by train Thursday night, and we all camped out in Daughter #1's little apartment - talk about family togetherness! We walked, we talked, we ate... and saw Jersey Boys at the August Wilson Theater. A perfect weekend, even with that lost hour of sleep Saturday night.
Needless to say, there was not much time for reading. Actually, there was no time at all for reading. I listened to a few chapters of Vanity Fair in the car, but that's it. I have bookmarks in three other books - Savage Beauty, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Tomorrow There Will be Apricots - but not one of them has moved in days. It seems like ages since I finished a book. Now I remember why I usually read only one book at at time!
Vanity Fair will take priority this week. I was really enjoying the story, but the last 4 or 5 chapters have been pretty boring. Our read-along wraps up on Friday and I'd like to finish by Thursday. There are roughly 200 (of 800) pages or 7 audio hours left - let's hope something happens soon.
Jersey Boys is such a fun show! Hang in there for Vanity Fair. I felt like the final few chapters went really quickly and a lot happens.
ReplyDeleteMelissa - Jersey Boys was excellent!! I'm really pushing to finish Vanity Fair this week... just started another chapter and it's better already.
DeleteSounds like a wonderful time spent with family!!!! I don't think I would find time for reading time either!!
ReplyDeleteStaci - We had so much fun! I'll spend some time with Vanity Fair tonight.
DeleteI had to click on that last title...and as soon as the description mentioned croissants and chocolat chaud, I was a goner. I'm glad it's not out quite yet because I've got three books going already! Glad you had such a great weekend... I miss having relatives in NY I can stay with (they just had to move, didn't they?) but I'm looking forward to a long weekend there in October for a cousin's wedding.
ReplyDeleteAudrey - Not to add further temptation, but Tomorrow There Will Be Apricots is available on NetGalley ;-)
DeleteWe saw Jersey Boys a few years ago here in Toronto and LOVED it! I was so much fun. Good luck with your reading; I'm kind of behind on my stack of books, too.
ReplyDeleteTrish - I made good progress on Vanity Fair yesterday... hope to get at least as much read tonight.
DeleteI heard Jersey Boys was fantastic. Sounds like a weekend worth giving up reading for.
ReplyDeleteDiane - It definitely was worth it. Hope to go back again late next month.
DeleteWhat a wonderful family time you've had! I'm all envious. I've always wanted to see a show in NYC, the last time I was there was over 10 yrs. ago. Recently there was The Heiress, and I so wanted to see that. As for audiobooks, I just got Eric Larson's In The Garden of Beasts from the library today... captivated by it already.
ReplyDeleteArti - I'm glad to hear you're enjoying In the Garden of Beasts. I listened to Larson's The Devil in the White City years ago and thought it was great.
DeleteGood luck on finishing Vanity Fair! Sometimes life just gets in the way of reading, but everything will balance out in the end. It sounds like you had a great weekend :-)
ReplyDeleteAnbolyn - It was a great weekend... so if I finish Vanity Fair a day or two late, I won't be too upset :-)
DeleteOMG we LOVED Jersey Boys! We saw it in Chicago. And what a weekend, it sounds like so much fun. Sometimes reading just has to wait.
ReplyDeleteSandy - Jersey Boys was such an amazing show!! It made me want to see Mama Mia again, but doubt I can get R to agree. Maybe I'll just settle for the movie (and Colin Firth) this time ;-)
DeleteI keep on trying to talk my family into going to Jersey Boys and I can't get any takers--we're going to NYC for spring break at the end of the month, and we have tickets for Breakfast at Tiffanys but I want to pick up discount tickets for something else, so maybe this time I'll get to see Jersey Boys!
ReplyDeleteI'll be interested in hearing how you liked Dorian Gray if you post about it.
As I recall, VF does lag a bit when Becky is on her own near the end. The best part, imo, is the first half of the book.
JaneGS - I thought Jersey Boys was going to be a tough sell to this crowd, but was pleasantly surprised. Dorian Gray isn't at all what I was expecting - we'll see how it goes once I give it my full attention. 150 more pages of Vanity Fair to go...
DeleteI went on a book rampage yesterday and finished an enormous stack of books. (Feeling lots of self-satisfaction)
ReplyDeleteDeb Nance - That's what I need to do, and soon! ;-)
DeleteNo reading? Who cares when you get a family weekend in NYC?!Lucky :)
ReplyDeleteStacybuckeye - We had a great time. I can't wait to go back!
DeleteOh well, sometimes reading just isn't as important as the other stuff. Sounds like a wonderful time in NYC with the girls. Did you enjoy Jersey Boys? We went and saw it a few months (year?) ago in Dallas and even Scott enjoyed it. He said it's the only musical he's found "tolerable" Ha!
ReplyDeleteTrish - I loved Jersey Boys! Not sure why I haven't seen it before now. Maybe you'll have to keep dragging Scott to musicals - there's got to be another one he'll like ;-)
