Teaser Tuesdays - The Hours

"She has dreamed of a park and she has dreamed of a line for her new book - what was it? Flowers; something to do with flowers. Or something to do with a park? Was someone singing? No, the line is gone, and it doesn't matter, really, because she still has the feeling it left behind. She knows she can get up and write." (page 30)

by Michael Cunningham

This is a reread, but a perfect follow-up to Mrs. Dalloway. I'm even more appreciative of Cunningham's brilliance this time around.

  1. Was this the basis for the movie The Hours with Nicole Kidman? I vaguely remember just seeing the beginning of the movie. Sounds interesting.

    Enjoy your week in reading.

  4. I haven't seen the movie or read the book.

I hate the feeling of something just slipping from your mind, and usually not recovered until much later!

    My teaser is here.

  5. I'm generally good about seeing movies that are Oscar-nominated, but I didn't see this one. Not sure why. Woolf continues to be an unexplored world for me. First I have to conquer Graphic Novels, then maybe I will take this on as a project!

  17. I love this book. I was lucky enough to go to the UK premiere of the film. A great experience. Philip Glass's soundtrack to the film is so haunting and evocative.

  21. I re-read this book last year as well, preparing myself for Mrs. Dalloway. The movie was just as great. Would it be a surprise if I say I like The Hours more than Mrs. Dalloway?
