Teaser Tuesdays - October 6

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Here's how it works:
-grab your current read
-open to a random page
-share two teaser sentences from somewhere on the page (avoid spoilers!)
-be sure to include the title and author so other TT participants can add the book to their tbr list if they like your teaser
-leave a comment with your link at Should Be Reading

My teaser:

"The Plague is cruel in the same way. Its blows fall and fall again upon raw sorrow, so that before you have mourned one person that you love, another is ill in your arms. Jamie was crying bitterly for his brother when his tears turned into the fevered whimpering of the ill." (page 80)

  19. I read this book a few years ago. I will be interested in your review. The spreading of a plague is not so unrealistic and the choice to contain it a heroic, but complicated one.

  20. So sad! I'm adding this to my To Read list -- historical fiction is one of my favorite genres, and I can tell this is a great one!

  21. I'm reading an historical fiction work right now too: Sigrid Undset's Kristin Lavransdatter trilogy. The author won the Nobel! It's kind of a day-in-the-life, but the prose is so beautiful it's never boring.

  27. Fleurfisher - So far, I really like the book.

Darlene - It was the same for me, but since she is the next author in the lecture series, I really needed to pick one up.

  30. This was such a great book! I liked it much, much better than her prize winning March, which I didn't even finish. How "dare" an author presume to write a sequel to Louisa May Alcott's Little Women? Yet, Year of Wonders was indeed wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Bellezza - So glad to hear you liked Year of Wonders! I'm reading it because my book club will be going to hear Brooks speak next month. I haven't any interest in March, but may try People of the Book, too.
