Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Here's how it works:
-grab your current read
-open to a random page
-share two teaser sentences from somewhere on the page (avoid spoilers!)
-be sure to include the title and author so other TT participants can add the book to their tbr list if they like your teaser
-leave a comment with your link at Should Be Reading
"The easy elegance of every movement of her limbs and body as soon as she began to advance from the far end of the room, set me in a flutter of expectation to see her face clearly. She left the window - and I said to myself, The lady is dark. She moved forward a few steps - and I said to myself, The lady is young. She approached nearer - and I said to myself (with a sense of surprise which words fail me to express), The lady is ugly!" (page 28)
by Wilkie Collins
That would be a shock...is she a ghost?
ReplyDeleteGreat teaser, I would like to know more! My teaser is here: http://rundpinne.blogspot.com/2009/09/to-be-king-teaser-tuesdays.html
ReplyDeleteJust read a review of this one. Looking forward to your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteHee, great teaser! I read The Woman in White last October and remember much being made of Marian being an ugly woman, as if women could not be both attractive and intelligent.
ReplyDeleteGreat tease! I think I'll take a look at this book. =)
ReplyDeleteHmmm...someone sounds a little shallow. I'll have to take a look at this one - excellent teaser.
ReplyDeleteMy teaser is here.
Sounds rather funny... is it? Thanks

ReplyDeleteTeaser/Whereabouts Tuesdays: Tintin and Cigars of the Pharaoh by Hergé
At first read, I thought they might have been talking about a ghost or something, until they called the lady ugly. Hahaha!
ReplyDeleteMy teaser is up at Find the Time to Read feel free to check it out :D
What a wonderful teaser - isn't it interesting how our views of people and expectations can change?
ReplyDeleteHere's my Teaser! ~ Wendi
Wow, that is unexpected. Great teaser!
ReplyDeleteHere's mine
The writing sounds so great. My copy from Amazon arrived yesterday. Can't wait for your review.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful teaser. Fluttering with expectation to find out she was most likely not what was expected!
ReplyDeleteI have read The Woman in White by Collins. I don't remember these lines. Your teaser made me laugh. The poor lady is "ugly." I shouldn't laugh. I should feel sorry for her.(:
ReplyDeleteMy teaser is here.

That last line kind of stops you...it is a great choice for a teaser.
ReplyDeleteWell that's being a bit forward isn't it! Poor thing...
ReplyDeleteI can see why it's so hard to post just two sentences, heh. It's pretty funny when it's all together, like that. I wouldn't have cut it apart either!
ReplyDeleteMy teaser is here: http://www.wellreadreviews.com/blog/?p=979
Hmm very intriguing teaser! I'll have to look that book up.
ReplyDeleteOn an unrelated note, I love the photo in your header. It reminds me of those perfect summer days, and the lake closest to me looks a lot like that
Oh My! I was not expecting the last comment and I laughed out loud! I really want to read this book, I recently read raves about it on another blog!
ReplyDeleteLove the picture in your header, beauriful!
Woah that last sentence seemed to come out of nowhere - and got a laugh out of me. Great teaser :)
ReplyDeleteHere's my Teaser Tuesday.
This one intimidates me!!! Great teaser!!
ReplyDeleteGreat teaser! I've had this one on my TBR list for years and years. Hope you're enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteOh man...I hate when that happens. The room must have been dark, not the lady!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy classics in the fall, so getting at one that has been on my shelf for two years: The Count--loved the movie.

I'm reading this right now, and I remember that was the last thing I expected from that sentence!
ReplyDeleteHee hee. This has been on my list forever, checked out of the library once! Look forward to reading your thoughts on it.
ReplyDeletePoor Marian! I privately decided that she wasn't ugly in the least - it's just that Walter was dim and couldn't see beyond traditional Victorian delicate-damsel-in-distress beauty. His loss :P
ReplyDeleteNise' - Nope, she's real.
ReplyDeleteJennifer - I'll be over to check your teaser soon...

ReplyDeleteOh HAHAAHA, I read this book a few months ago and was totally sold on Wilkie Collins. His writing is so funny. If you like this one you'd enjoy Armadale too, there are some simalarly comic moments and interesting females in that.
