Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Here's how it works:
-grab your current read
-open to a random page
-share two teaser sentences from somewhere on the page (avoid spoilers!)
-be sure to include the title and author so other TT participants can add the book to their tbr list if they like your teaser
-leave a comment with your link at Should Be Reading
"When she recovered from the first shock of hearing what her mother had arranged for her, she decided that she could not miss this unique opportunity of satisfying her curiosity and embarrassing Paul. And how she would embarrass him by appearing in his house. How uneasy he must be already at the prospect! She was filled with savage pleasure at the thought of it..." (page 96)
by Dorothy Whipple
The thought of showing up at someones house when I wasn't really wanted there, sounds like something I'd do. Good teaser, because I really want to know what's going on.
ReplyDeleteMine is up at Find the Time to Read, it's zombie themed for the YA Zombie Appreciation Week :D
Wow - this looks really interesting... Great teaser this week! My teaser accompanies a giveaway on my blog this week.

ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoyed the teaser - but the book cover artwork is absolutely exquisite!

Louise is definitely the type of someone I would like to keep at a distance!
ReplyDeleteI read my first Dorothy Whipple last week and I was utterly charmed. Now I think your teaser may well have tempted me to go for Someone at a Distance next. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI have not read this author. But, your teaser has my interest now.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Louise so charming - NOT!
ReplyDeleteSounds wickedly delicious!! Wonder what she does????

ReplyDeleteI have an award for you on my blog.
I read a wonderful review of this book last week on Fleur Fisher Reads. It's one of the Persephone books. I really want this one. Hope you are also enjoying it.

Gautami - Thank you...lots of good choices in this book so far.
Paperback Reader - I agree 100% !
Fleurfisher - I know I'll be wanting to read more of her books, too!
ReplyDeleteDiane - This book is one of the Persephone classics. I know she's written quite a few, and I'm sure I'll be looking for them soon.
Darlene - I've had an uneasy feeling about Louise from the second she was introduced. Can't wait to see what she's going to do!
Staci - I think I've only caught a glimpse of the evil she is capable of. Can't wait to read more tonight!
Amy Reads Good Books - That 'savage pleasure' phrase really got me, too!
Laura's Reviews - Thank you so much! I'll be right over...
Margot - I really am enjoying this book, and was happy to see that Fleurfisher liked it so much, too. I'h had it on hold for months and am so glad to finally get it!
Lisa - Right now it seems that there is quite a bit going on. I wonder what will happen next!
Great teaser. I want to know what her mother has arranged!
ReplyDeleteHmmm - savage pleasure - does that mean she's hiding a meat cleaver behind her back while greeting everyone with a smile?
ReplyDeleteSounds like she is planning something "evil". LOL. Great teaser!
ReplyDeleteNise' - While she was out of the country, Louise's mother accepted an invitation on her behalf to oversee a booth at a charity fair being organized by the new wife of an ex-lover.
ReplyDeleteThe Bumbles - LOL - I haven't seen any meat cleavers appear yet, but with this woman you never know!
Catherine@The Blonde Diaries - I'm starting to think everything this woman does has some evil motivation...
Claire (Kiss a Cloud) has also mentioned two titles by Dorothy Whipple, who is new to me. Now that you are teasing us about her, I would be a fool to let this book sneak away from me.
ReplyDeleteUh oh, looks like someone's in for it! Cool teaser.
ReplyDeleteMatt - Sounds like another book for your list! How can we manage to keep up with them all - lol!
ReplyDeleteWanda - Yes, I think there will be trouble ahead!
Happy Persephone Weekend AND LONDON!!!! blimey, sounds fun.
