I ended up liking Lab Girl, but midway through was wondering whether I would end up liking it. It was also an audio for me. It sounds like you are settling in and embracing your retirement adventures. I'm hoping it will be the same here.

The Red Notebook was a delightful read and last night I finished The People in the Photo, which I loved! Lab Girl did improve for me in the second half, but it will not be a favorite.

We're off to FL in a couple of days to celebrate my FIL's 90th birthday. I'm finding less reading time this summer for some reason but, hope to remedy that. It seemed more about her relationship with her Lab partner over the years. I don't think it gets better in the 2nd half. I thought the beginning was better. uh-oh. Hope you recovered from the storms and are enjoying other reads. cheers. thecuecardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08870323589682197091noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7080965436653289398.post-46784054180755593002017-07-12T00:38:38.260-04:002017-07-12T00:38:38.260-04:00Not reading or writing! Just walking and looking f...Not reading or writing! Just walking and looking for whales. :) You're doing with Trollope what I did with Wharton many years ago. I read so many of her books! I miss the days of reading a favorite author like that. Now I seem to read all the latest thrillers and whatever catches my eye on Goodreads. I thought I'd read more in retirement, but so far that hasn't happened. Maybe when the rains arrive in the winter?

The Red Notebook caught my attention last year when Andi mentioned it. Good to know it's a winner. I'll see if the library has a copy. I'm trying to refrain from any book purchases for a bit. No room and far too many unread books on the shelves.

Hmmm, Lab Girl isn't quite a hit with you, eh? I felt that way after listening to H is for Hawk. It was good and I loved the reader/author, but it didn't knock my socks off. Actually, my audio time isn't what it used to be. I'd rather listen to the waves and seabirds than a book, at least for now. Again, maybe this winter.

I'm currently reading The Fortunate Ones by Ellen Umansky. I saw it on the shelf at work before we moved and I was intrigued. I love novels about WWII and this one sounded like it might be a winner. It's told in alternating points of view (so common with these historical novels these days) and I prefer the older character's story to the modern day character, but it's holding my attention, which is saying a lot! And now it's time to call it a night and go read. :)Les in Oregonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15053880852764886416noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7080965436653289398.post-8527768200029221352017-07-11T14:07:09.385-04:002017-07-11T14:07:09.385-04:00You have me wanting to read Trollope. It's been on my radar but hasn't been high on my list. It's good to have a balancing opinion to all the rave reviews. I just finished A Paris All My Own which was a compilation of essays by different amazing women authors and I absolutely loved it.
